Stupid to blame pitch preparation. We prepare green mambas that skittled Aus for 38 or something a few years back. No one had an issue with that. Double standards in my opinion.

We should just man up and face the spin.

Besides the manning up (which we should be doing - pathetic the way we folded), I remember there being plenty of criticism - groundsman may even have lost his job iirc

I blame the selectors for selecting such a 'green' team for a tour of India - you really needed to have players who have proven themselves to be able to grit it out - sadly, this lot don't have it.

Pitch is terrible but our application has been dreadfull. Really missing smith, kallis & boucher, they use to tough it out in these situations. These new guys are too soft...

Look at the combined experience of Smith, Kallis and Boucher vs the youngsters we have in the team. You can start a test career with 50 tests experience, you have to start at the bottom. Sure, we are getting a pounding, but this is invaluable experience for these youn guys.

Because there was 2 bad innings in that match, the SA first innings and Aus second innings. But pitch wasn't terrible for all match. Michael Clarke was able to get a 150 in the first aus innings and smith&amla 100's in the SA second innings. Sa got 236/2 in the final innings. Pitch had something for everyone over the match, no batsman will get close to 100 on this pitch.

We shouldn't have to build a team at the expense of of the team.
It was hardly ever the case in the past, we built teams and still won.
Our top order players are just not performing art the moment so the new players are having to shoulder too much of the work.

I fear these young guys won't be in the team much longer....

India got a good score here. I remember when 300 was a excellent score for an innings. India also played on this pitch, they will probably go over 200 again in there second innings. Then what will we say?

If India can bat out a day, why can't we? 10 Overs in now and they are already close to halfway our score. Just because we don't like it doesn't mean it is bad. They play spin, always have, always will. Spin is part of the game, and we are failing at that.

Since when is 200 a good score for a test match? That's only a good score when the pitch is dreadfull. Good first innings scores on good test wickets are considered 350-400. Fact is not one batsman has gotten a century in this series...

Can the SA selectors please bring back Quinton de Kock and drop Dane Vilas. Put Quinton opening instead of Stiaan van Zyl.
We know Quinton is the long term keeper in all formats of the game.

Agreed. Anytime you roll a team for 200 on day one of a test match, you'd expect to think you're well on top.

Yeah he should be there. Question is now, do you fly him out for the last test? Will it really make a difference? It's not like other batsmen are blazing 100's and Vilas is struggling. The entire team is diabolical (AB excl) with bat in hand.

He also has shown at an early age that he has the mental toughness for a situation like this.

Couple of things

1. We're poor at playing spin + their spinners are much more accurate than ours
2. India batted first when the pitch was at it's 'best'
3. When you have a 136 run lead on a pitch like this, the pressure on you is vastly reduced
4. Too many inexperienced Saffers in this team.

I'd like to see them reshuffle the order completely in the 2nd innings - if the top 6 can't do it, the game is lost anyway.

1. Elgar
2. Hash
3. AB
4. Faf
5. JP
6. everyone else 'cos if they get this far down, the game is lost anyway

The south african top order should be watching this Dhawan innings closely. Under pressure already, and his application so far has been brilliant. If he plays himself back into some kind of form in this innings, watch out.
