To be fair, he has been pretty decent this tour compared to the others.

Every innings he has faced quite a lot of balls and looked like he wanted to fight to stay there.

That's Elgar...throwback to how test cricket used to be played. On a decent track, I reckon we'd have the stabilising influence at the top of the order we're looking for.

I still feel we need a proper opener with Elgar. Van Zyl is a very good player but he isn't an opener.

I reckon for the English series we must play and open with De Kock and move Van Zyl down the order.

I will be shocked. Would back the team when we still had smith, kallis & boucher but now this lot seems to lack the fight needed.

yeah, Smith and Kallis brought alot of wise heads and steel to the team - steel that is missing atm.

Yep.

Also, no disrespect to the mighty #, but I don't think he's tough or canny enough to captain under these conditions.

Read my mind...he's not got the personality to captain, period imo. He's got a great calming presence but I don't see this inspiring people to fight. Add in he didn't really want to captain and we've got a problem.

I'm looking around and can't see personalities like Brian Mac, Dave Richardson, Boucher, Graeme Smith, Clive Rice etc...we've got a generation of relative softies playing the game now.

I miss Ntini shouting from 3rd man and the stump mic picking it up clear as if he was 5 yards away. No one beats Big Mac for breaking tension, remember using the umpires tie to clean(or shine) the ball.

Wonder when SAB is going to get miffed with Steyn blatantly advertising Pepsi every time he sees his face on TV monitor ?
