And everybody pointing fingers at Vilas, why not the other batsmen? Why couldn't we have batted like this in the first innings, when it was arguably easier to bat on?

Yeah, I agree, you can't go and hang this entire debacle around Vilas' neck, but his selection is the most glaring fault with this current squad.

Perhaps, but you can't blame 79 AO on one guy. We've carried guys who were much worse before...

Add this together and you see why we lost so badly

Mighty # - noob test captain
Domingo - noob coach
SvZ - noob opener
Vilas - noob Keeper/No 7
Spinner's pitch
India

endof debate.

Oh, I'm not forgetting the lack of application by the so-called Seniors at all - just that the above added to the rest is a perfect recipe for this disaster

I hope when India come to SA, we prepare rock hard or green mamba pitches.
Very poor sportsmanship by india, not even they could get pass 250.

With that sort of pitch did it not mean- you win the toss you win the match ?

We've batted first before, this is no excuse.
People need to stop blaming our inability to play spin and our clear lack of match temperament.
We didn't look up to std in any way shape or form.

It's not poor sportsmanship, it's sport.
We should not be focusing solely on pace, it's been our downfall in many countries.

No, I hope we prepare good pitches that provide a decent contest between bat and ball.

Personally I'm looking forward to the "visitors choose whether to bat or bowl" instead of the toss lottery.

If you going to be the best, you need to be able to play in all conditions. Our best spinner in this game is actually a Pakistani, what would have happened if we didnt have him

seems like both sides s spinners took many wickets , India didn't score many runs , just more because they batted first. true/false ? India batted first in the first test right ?

We can complain about the pitch all we want, we just weren't good enough. The SA team of 3-5 years back would have won both tests, maybe even the second test in one day :)
We are lacking a proper opening stand, proper spinner and a proper batsmen/wicket-keeper.

Can't really say but its obvious the Smith and Kallis retirement has created a black hole. We never had a proper spinner and Boucher never really set the world alight with the bat.

Because bother batsmen have proven themselves already and Vilas was lucky to be included in the team.
Suddenly Alviro looked good compared to this one hit wonder Stiaan.

Pitches like this are pathetic. Win the toss, win the game.

If you want to be the best test team in the world you must be able to win in all sort of conditions.
But I do agree, these pitches are bad, even India struggled against our mediocre spinners. It would have been much worse if they scored 350+ and bowled us out for 150.
But it was still an even fight, if we just had better spinners, and batsman in form. Both Hash and Faf are not in great form... could have been a different story.

Its like any sports team, you have your ups and downs. The test teal was on a massive up for the last 10 years, but we are on the way down now. I recon we won't stay no 1 for long, but we will get it back again... Look at the blue bulls, won the super rugby q couple of times, lost a few players and then struggled to win a game... natural progression of things.

Strange tour indeed. The two formats where India were the firm favorites, we beat them comfortably. Then it came to Tests and our batsmen went AWOL. Vilas was merely given a chance to prove himself because the ONE test match he played was rained out. I fully understand the reasoning behind keeping him. Pity for him he will be dropped and I fear if QdK gets injured or something, he won't get the call up and the selectors will look elsewhere.

Can't we just forfeit the last Test and end this nightmare series? :D
