So which is it then:

1. A failed experiment
2. The team grossly underestimated the opposition
3. The team is rusty and forgot they needed Q20 before heading abroad
4. Bangladesh are playing to their strengths and outclassing the team

Too early to say IMO, lets see when they bat

And I was under the impression SA was going to fold to Spin (their age old fear)

But 3 to pace and 3 to spin seems pretty even, I'm guessing the tail enders are going to fold quickly as well.

At this point in time it is Bavuma for who I feel most. He's still trying to find his feet in Test cricket.

/sigh

same, though I do feel this is an opportunity for Bavuma to show us his bottle. Fighting against the odds and coming up tops will give him a huge confidence boost.

Hi there Humble Scot! Thanks for putting on a great Open this past weekend :)

My two cents...

1) I don't think this is a failed experiment. Apart from ABdV, this is as close to our preferred starting XI as it gets.
2) I don't think so. Just reading through the way the wickets fell, it doesn't appear as if any batsman really THREW their wicket. Just seems to be good bowling so credit where it's due.
3) Lol. Just appears to be they haven't adapted to the requirements of test cricket as fast as they should've.
4) Mostly this. They've just put the ball in good areas and have put our batsmen under pressure which we haven't been able to cope with.

I think the guys just need to get back into the groove of the 5 day format again. We saw what happened in the Ashes with England humbing Australia in the first game and then Australia bouncing back in the most emphatic fashion. Not saying we're going to lose this game but there's no reason we can't bounce back from a session perspective.

FTFY. Wall, I fully agree with you. And I really hope he shows the top order up in the process. If he were to fall short of a decent personal score, I just hope they give him further opportunities and not hold this against him. He must be under immense pressure.

Agreed. If he can end with a good 50 or 60, it will do him a world of good! He's under a constant microscope from a selection perspective and a good series (nevermind just this innings) will go a long way to avoiding scrutiny.

Doesn't sound like Harmer is going to last long. Every ball describes him at sixes and sevens.

Just the bowlers to come. We'll be lucky to make 200 now, nevermind 250. Bavuma has stuck it out admirably but I can't see him shepparding the tail to a competitive total. Batsmen have dropped the ball. Up to our bowlers to drag us back into this one (both when they bowl as well as trying to add some useful runs).

Well we made 200 already:
220/7

Steyn / Morkel / Harmer to smash a few with Bavuma to get us ~300.

Yup, nothing like a dose of humble pie. Crucial knock from Vern there. Bavuma playing a little gem here!

Bavuma looks like a man in form. Last 8 innings has given 3 centuries and 3 half centuries.
