I don't think the people who actually do the work are going to be losing their job.

Maybe half true, I doubt pilots are going to be laid off so that leaves cabin crew, ground staff, and office/call center staff to be laid off. More likely to have some in-between skilled people let go, then have the work burden increase on the remaining skilled workers, while the useless hang around and do what they do best.

Are there ALTERNATIVE employment opportunities for these displaced people ?
The ranks of the unemployed AND unemployable are starting to swell
Once a tipping point is reached CHAOS becomes inevitable !

South Africa -- a modern case study in state failure !
When there were so many other examples to have learned from -- one actually a neighbour !

Perhaps the negative meme that black Africans are incapable of governing and running a modern technologically advanced democratic state are TRUE ?

Well if you rip me from my current day and put me in charge of a type 3 civilization on the Kardashev scale, what do you think will happen?
Technically dont blame me for when civilization fails, blame the cnuts who put me in charge.

I'm not aware of a union caving to employers. I doubt this would happen, if it does, would we actually know the true numbers culled anyway. SOE lie continuously

If I were one of the staff to be retrenched, I would be pissed as the ONLY reason why I am losing my job is because others stole and looted. Now I am being forced to pay for it.

You're already being forced to pay for it....

If "sweeteners" are thrown into the deal, then we might see them agreeing to it. That's assuming some union leader doesn't resort to a militant option.

Chickens coming home to roost so to speak  Socialism is great until you run out of other peoples money, which is partly what is happening here and with Eskom, propping up SOE's artificially using tax payers money.

No uneducated population would be able to run it, it does not matter about skin color....

To counter that, someone could say there is a negative meme that white Africans are incapable of governing a modern technologically advanced state without racism and oppression.

The reality is that it doesn't matter what the skin colour of the people doing the governing is or how they are selected. If they are not following a form of liberal policy with free markets and protection of individual rights, they will end up as a shytehole.

They are already making plans to strike to show that they will not accept the job losses.

Unions don't have a choice. They cannot stop a legitimate Section 189 retrenchment process due to operational needs. Yes, they can disrupt etc. but at the end, they won't win.

So why not do this at Eskom? Oh, wait - no balls!
