SAA surprises with cheapest Mauritius flight prices

South African Airways (SAA) will resume flights to Mauritius on 21 November 2021, and a basic comparison revealed that its prices are lower than its competitors.

SAA said flights to Mauritius would initially operate on Wednesdays and Sundays, departing Johannesburg OR Tambo International at 09h45, with return flights departing Mauritius at 16h35.

“Part of our growth strategy is to identify routes where there is demand and which can be profitable to the carrier,” said SAA interim CEO Thomas Kgokolo.

97% of this thread will be people who won’t fly SAA “even if you paid us” with the rest having had great service with SAA and not hesitating to support them with the former 97% chastising them for wasting “our money”.

And where is the guarantee that these cheap flights will actually happen and if it doesn't happen the refunds will be snappy, given:

And I am proudly one of them.

Buying a ticket on SAA is like giving a bergie R200 and asking him to quickly pop into the shop and bring you back a bottle.

Best flight I ever had was in the 90's on the SAA 747SP. The days when you could walk into the cockpit and have a chat with the pilots.
He showed me that altimeter which was at 47000 feet. You'll never see that again he told me. Closest I've been to space.

Not sustainable.
Not sustainable? Mauritius is a 4 hour flight costing 5k per person. They have been insane with their prices for years in partnership with Air Mauritius.
In the past it has reached 15-16K per person return on economy!

Maybe that price is sustainable?

Remember how people moan a lot about Tymebanks and Rains service levels? It's cause the product is cheap.

 :ROFL::ROFL: got to hand it to these clowns... an opportunistic spin on an otherwise shameful situation.

FlySafair CEO Elmar Conradie said it is an exciting milestone for them to expand beyond the South African domestic market.

All the airlines on that list are insane.

You can fly Heathrow to Mauritius return for R15k? But a 4-hr return flight from JHB is (almost) the same?
And that was just a quick Skyscanner search, packaged deals from EU will be even cheaper.

Either taking chances or our Govt is milking the airport taxes.

SAA staff: 1000
Planes: 8

1000/8=125 staff per plane
