I read that the SABC will broadcast some games in HD but only to certain VIPs. Does anyone know how they going to do this and if you can Tap into this like you can with the Digital signal. I see that the SABC has an extra feed up on Sentech Vivid. What will this be used for?

I was also thinking the same, i mean SABC doesnt even have anything close to HD before the world cup.

They broadcasting in HD and 3d to the rest of the world yet they have 3 Channels no way near HD ,and a news channel that no one would watch even if it was free!

so so funny!

All you have to do is buy the new DVB-T2 SABC decoder and connect the HDMi out to your HD screen... Oh no wait... That was a dream I had last night.

The signal being transmitted to the media centres at the stadiums is going to be digital. At the moment they are plugged into analog but apparently the signal will go digital towards the end of this week. The TVs being installed are 37" DVB TVs.

Executioner: Sir would you like me to sanitise the ax before lopping your head off?
You: Yes please.

So now we can get all the taxpayer funded crap in glorious HD.

I have just checked the dvbt2 signal in PE and can confirm that SABC is now broadcasting at 1080i

I stand to be corrected here but 1080i is only equalvant to 540p so that is no where near HD let alone full HD, but I am sure some of the new TVs will upscale it to HD.

No, it's an equivalent to 720p

Broadcast standard[edit]

An example frame of poorly deinterlaced video. Despite the fact that most TV transmissions are interlaced, plasma and LCD display technologies are progressively scanned. Consequently, flat-panel TVs convert an interlaced source to progressive scan for display, which can have an adverse impact on motion portrayal.
Within the designation "1080i", the i stands for interlaced scan. A frame of 1080i video consists of two sequential fields of 1920 horizontal and 540 vertical pixels

I hope people know that most newer TVs have modern dvbt2 tuners, and there is no need for a STB with them

But does require a suitable antenna. Hence the plethora of those antenna for sale that claim you can receive "free" channels.

Yet the government has spent the last 10 years trying to get STBs as the standard :)
