SABC must explain how it's going to make money — besides TV licences

Communications minister, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, has given the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) until 30 June 2022 to explain how it plans on generating more revenue.

She also said her department is working with finance minister Enoch Godongwana concerning TV licence fee waivers during her budget vote speech on Wednesday, 18 May 2022.

You can make instant money by selling it for scrap.
Aren't they like severely in the hole and are basically bankrupt in the first place?(without all the government bailouts of course) The sale of things would be possibly enough just to settle half their debts I rate.

Bwahahaha, so they honestly think by waiving all the outstanding license fees that more people would pay for a TV license? This lot just prove how deluded they are more and more every day.

They won't, cause their actual consumers don't pay the TV license already

It's hard to justify your existence if you rely on extortion as an income model.

Wait? They had to do this before, and before that, and before that......

New tender I guess. Yawwnnn, old news.

Amnesty would mean that non-paying TV licence holders would no longer have to worry about back payments and penalty fees, which Ntshavheni believes could help collections.

Nobody's worried at all about this. That's exactly why they're in this mess to begin with.

The DA suggests a non-indigent household media connection levy and the ANC suggests a tax bailout. Both good ideas.

1 - Make and sell original documentaries, like BBC and National Geographic do
2 - Get rid of non-performing staff
3 - Reduce the number of channels - fiction, news is sufficient

No 1 requires a bit of work. Maybe poach staff from successful TV producers

Give it 6 months, if no go, close it down and stick to radio only

They won't submit anything just like their financials which are outstanding since 2018.
