SABC fails to pay R745 million bill for sending out its TV signal

The South African Broadcasting Corporation's (SABC's) dire financial situation means it can't afford to pay the R745 million it owes state-owned signal distributor Sentech.

This is according to Uyanda Siyotula, coordinator of the Support Public Broadcasting Coalition, who, in an interview with 702, said the SABC's losses already sit at almost R500 million for the current financial year.

Doesn't the same entity own both? So they can't pay themselves?
Sentech now operates as a commercial enterprise owned by the Government of South Africa via the Department of Communications and has its own board of directors.

OK, so the same entity owns both with a few extra steps? They would still have been aware of the non payment and allowed it for whatever reason.

OK, so now we know why Sentech was not carrying the SABC DVB-T2 signal for most of this year. I don't blame them.

The ANC is kite-flying between organs of state. Lekker BEE, AA and Transformation!

Viva Africa.

It's amazing how South Africans can just sit back and complain on an online forum while everything around them is crumbling. There are no riots, no marches, no nothing, just a frog in a pot with the gas getting turned up higher all the time.

I'd love to see a meme of state operators giving each other a dirty look....
SABS, Sentech, Post Office, SAA, Eskom.... Each is as bad as the rest.
