Ex cit. Really? Have they considered the legal implications? Maybe the person should just keep quite , instead of showing how stupid he/she is.

“Furthermore, submitted regulations aim to make it obligatory for Internet streaming and television streaming websites to pay a percentage of subscription fees to the SABC, where these websites stream SABC content,” Tladi said.

Who TF in his/her right mind would want to stream SABC content.

Luckily I have cancelled my DSTV subscription. Won't get a cent from me and can go the way of etolls.

Regardless of that, one would also assume that the streaming sites would have paid the SABC for the rights to the content in the first place... so what fscking knobhead thinks the SABC would have legal standing to get paid twice for the same thing.

Oh, they want to "TV license baba" everything that has a display? and hold DSTV hostage about DSTV customers having a valid and paid for TV license?
So, then I must present my "TV license" before I buy a simple smartwatch, not capable of displaying any format of videos or photos? Tsek.
What are they going to do if you do not have a TV license? Cut off the internet?

SABC says DStv must crack down on TV Licences

SABC TV Licence head Sylvia Tladi has detailed the state broadcaster's proposal for the amendment of South Africa's broadcasting laws, which include requiring DStv to crack down on TV Licence payments.

You said it, "broadcasting laws" , streaming services does not broadcast anything however I am sure you will also go and change the definition of broadcasting in the dictionary while you are playing this stupid game.

I am doing this service for you for FREE SABC and oh boy its hilarious the monopoly footnote to the definition.

broadcasting

noun

  1. the transmission of programmes or information by radio or television.
    "the state monopoly on broadcasting"

Cant\don't\won't do it yourself. . . . Just blackmail your "competition" into doing your work for you.
That is the argument SABC is trying to make. Yes Baba pls make it legal for us to do something illegal.

Btw genius move deciding to cater only to the poorest of demographics and being surprised they don't pay.

She said that as is currently the case with purchasing a television set, the proposed revised legislation will also motivate pay-TV operators like DStv to hold their subscribers accountable for registering or having a valid television licence before the subscription, purchase, or rental of a decoder can be granted.

“Furthermore, submitted regulations aim to make it obligatory for Internet streaming and television streaming websites to pay a percentage of subscription fees to the SABC, where these websites stream SABC content,” Tladi said.

What is SABC content?

I said in the other thread that the SABC is doing what the ANC is currently busy doing, establishing custodianship. I am saying it now, it won't be long until we need to have our work commissioned by the SABC which will turn it into SABC content. Twitch, YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Twittwar, etc. The SABC, the editorial. Websites, any online content will be subjected to this if the SABC have their way. It is a BAD practice, especially coming from the state.

The SABC won't receive a cent from Google, Facebook and the like, but damn will they try to go after us locals.

Dictionaries aren't the definition of law. A policy can explicit state what is covered under broadcasting. Yes, streaming is a broadcast. If you want to be nitpicky with dictionaries, most of the UK and American dictionaries have streaming defined under broadcasting.

Uh no, maybe the their licensing laws but the official definition in the Oxford Dictionary which is the official english language dictionary does not include streaming under broadcasting.

"In the 2000s, transmissions of television and radio programs via streaming digital technology have increasingly been referred to as broadcasting as well."

Referred to but not at all added to the official dictionary and until that is actually added to the dictionary as part of the official definition it is just made up none sense.

These new devices, which have resulted in new media platforms and content dissemination channels, have a direct impact on TV licence legislation.
But, but, but "media platforms" != "SABC media platforms" and
"content dissemination channels" != "content dissemination of SABC channels"
Why should we pay SABC if we not viewing their content???

The only way I would support these idiotic recommendation is if SABC adopted CAM (Conditional Access Module) or similar technology so that ONLY registered paying users can view the content - no pay -> no view.

Official dictionary, how?

Mind you that the current (2nd) edition dates back to 1989. The third-edition, which is being prepared, will blow your official mind.

Maybe they should also ask KFC to collect TV licenses on their behalf, you know after you order your bucket for 1 they ask you to add R2 for Hope, they should also ask you to add R2 for the SABC

Actually thats not a bad idea considering you are watching TV when you look at their menu's these days... so you do need a TV License to see what you can buy from KFC.
