Why are monitors so much more expensive than a TV ?

A silly tax which was argued and instituted in the defence of our local TV manufacturing industry. Add import and voila.

In my personal view, it is a legacy tax, one which is still insisted upon by the lawmakers.

To court controversy - I actually agree with SABC here.
If someone has a DSTV satellite subscription, then they should also own a TV licence in order to use it.

For streaming services they can go f. themselves though, iPad's, Laptops, and Computer Monitors are not TV's, and do not get SABC via traditional methods.

We no longer need the SABC. Time to scrap them. The reason they exist is no longer valid. If you can't produce or find programming in your own mother tongue then only you and your community are to blame. Each person can now be their own broadcaster.

There's always youtube and the such. Can't see why it won't be feasible - for a small monthly fee you will produce content in a native tongue.
