SABC sees surge in advertising sales

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has delivered significant growth in advertising sales over the past few months, boosting revenue across a number of its operations.

It said that despite the difficult operating environment, its revenue strategy has begun paying dividends.

Weren't we heading for a black-out anytime soon (tm) ?

Gone with the strategy then...

Wait, I have it! What they're going to do is show NO content at all (blackout) -- and then just run ADS!

That'll work!

“The SABC has faced one of its most challenging trading conditions to date. Despite popular misconceptions that the corporation is a government-funded state-owned enterprise, the SABC only receives a 3% grant from the state,” the public broadcaster said.
Its not about the 3% grant, it is about the massive bailouts. How much do the bailouts contribute to the balance sheet?

Yes, but for how much were they selling those ad-slots for? Doesn't matter if you're numbers are up but you're giving everyone a discount just so they'll spend money with you.

Just to add,
Do eTV (OpenView), DSTV, Primedia, etc receive 3% grants and bailouts?

Don't care. Don't watch them, don't need them. There is nothing so useless as doing effeciently that which should not be done at all - Peter Drucker.

They're misrepresenting the facts. Their bailouts are a grant since they have no possibility of ever repaying the debt. Hence they receive 100% of their earnings as bailouts effectively.

, its revenue strategy has begun paying dividends.

This was the revenue strategy from the 80's and 90's. Nothing new. Am I missing something?

“It also validates that the SABC’s approach to re-engineering the way business has always been done, providing innovative media placement solutions for brands

Re-engineering? Wasn't business done like this a few decades ago. Taking undue credit, here.

What about the billions in tax bailout money?
Or this statement actually confirms that the tax bailouts, never reach the SABC. The money goes straight into the bank accounts of ANC cadres.
