DStv sports channel coming to SABC+

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has struck a deal with DStv owner MultiChoice to bring SuperSport Schools to the public broadcaster's free streaming service, SABC+.

A curated version of the channel will be available to stream through SABC+ from 8 February 2025.

It shouldn't come as a surprise they have been licensing content from them for decades
 
Boxing, kicking, choking, knifing and rape will be the prime content, no doubt, seeing as it is schools that are involved.

They don't offer such content even before it was acquired by SuperSport expecting to see horseracing.
 
Not going to lie, I think this is a very good deal for both. DSTV gets to spam ads like they do, the public who may be using SABC+ can get some good schools entertainment. But guessing the better Varsity level stuff won't be on that channel though.

Correct, nothing like that, schools only sports. Its main value is for the kids and their families.

Main sports seem to be Rugby, Netball, Water Polo and Hockey. Think I saw some Soccer as well, wot a surprise..

Sounds like it will be more highlights-orientated, maybe little or nothing actually live via SABC+.
Edit: Does include live events.

There is a way to get it without having a DStv package (not available on their cheap EasyView option BTW) or signing up for SABC+ streaming, by tapping into their SABC+ stream directly with a Media Player such as VLC.

The link is likely to remain stable like other SABC+ links, but as security-heavy DStv is involved.... maybe not. (Regular link updates would then be unlikely.)

Correction - channel 216 is now available on the cheap DStv EasyView package as well, just R29 pm basic.
Well done Multichoice, that's a smart move.

At least they now get a decent sports package but they do tend to use provincial stations for some matches so not all is lost there
