But, but, but the content is not SABC content - you have no legal rights to apply a TV license to 3rd party content.
The TV license fee is for SABC content - Netflix has no SABC content.

#VoetsekSABC and die already

No the tv license isnt for SABC content. Its if you own a device that can receive a broadcasting signal.

However Netflix, Youtube, Porn sites, etc doesnt broadcast. Good luck with that.

Mmmm how can I further screw over the South African consumer, wait I have an idea lets charge them for breathing air.... Bunch of thieves brought to you by the ANC, remember that the next time you vote.

Actually we have a green bill for which you pay taxes on car emmisions, Eskom emmissions etc. And yes you already pay taxes for clean air. Even if its no fault to you.

How you gonna monitor this. I will just cancel my susbcription service to Netflix. Call my brother who lives on Mars to forwad me his details. Punch that in my mobile laptop and enjoy it again. You close that loophole I just subscribe to IPTV.

Now after Covid you have to wonder where that R600 billion covid funds are coming from. Most of the middle class taxpayers didnt get any benefit or even any amount from the fund. But they will be told to help cover it as a once off. Then it will be stuck to them for eternity.

Same with the Road Accident Fund levy. It was never supposed to be long term, just temporary. Now its effectively a permanent fuel tax.

Compared to other countries we are being milked dry. Either the country breaks up or the people need to leave. And now especially High Net worth people are dumping South Africa. So greatly that you will soon not be able to leave thr country with your pension money (ANC is pushing a bill it must remaim behind and liable for tax for 3 years.)

It is the African way. If you can't compete with another service, destroy it - either through legislation, or actual physical destruction. Failing that, tax it to death. Much like grass in townships, creativity and ingenuity isn't allowed to grow.

I'm guessing this has lead from some brainstorming [farting] meeting at each of the SOEs to see how they can abuse their state sanctioned monopolies to extort more money from South Africans.

PIGS! Corrupt scum sucking sewage rats looking for even more money to steal.

What is it going to take to rid ourselves of these useless state entities?

The Pirate Bay will never ask for your TV licence to torrent, sallimsain'..

Pass me with this k@k until everyone pays for electricity, until then we are not all equal.

100%

All this will do is cost Netflix subscribers.

SABC / TV license is a stupid tax.

This ONE just cracks me up...
But we are not only limiting it to TV. We also have other platforms where people consume content and in all of those areas, that is where we should look at how we are able to get SABC licence fees from those gadgets.”

Good luck getting a cent from me idotspokkenstupids

This is very absurd to say the least.
All the best to them...

The iStore must just be prepared to collect SABC TV license fees with each iPhone/iPad sold.
