Oh FFS. How about we charge a once off levy on new radios and TV's and be done with it? Also move to radio only for a public broadcaster.

Seriously? Maybe they should Google what the definition and function of a Public Broadcaster is, assuming they know how to use Google and can understand English. Just because they want to justify their huge salaries for doing nothing, doesn't mean the rest of the world is stupid enough to believe them. I hope that the service providers will treat them with the disdain they deserve and take the matter to court if need be.

That would be even better as long as Radio stations at the very least will carry emergency reports and stories of national interest.

Radio was a medium of value way back in the day, when Springbuck Radio existed. And BBC radio was something.

Since then it has become a lucky packet, filled with gummint advertising. Don't even listen to it any more. Only listen in passing, when I walk in somewhere and they have the radio on for "back ground noise" ...

Come to think about it, it must be more than 40 odd years, since I saw a radio for sale, that could receive the BBC transmissions.

no way in hell I pay SABC a cent, even if it means my entertainment is taken away! I do not have a TV for this reason. What they're forgetting is that neither Netflix, nor MultiChoice are government entities while municipalities are! what balls. Hands off the private sector you money hungry greedy ass wipes!

Wondering how many thousands of rands a radio receiver would cost one, these days that, can receive the BBC World Service?

Ex cit. Really? TV licenses are so 1950's. Now they want Netflix to help pay for TV license. I work for an American company and these guys don't really think much of SA or anybody on the African continent. This is also the way of thinking that will scare most investors away for not entering the SA market etc. How are they going to prove who watches what?

SABC wants South African Netflix viewers to pay TV licence fees

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has proposed that regulation be implemented to expand the definition of a TV licence to include services such as Netflix.
The ANC put their cadres into SABC to run it- They proved to be totally incompetent thieves and have destroyed the company - their clients moved onto Netflix and others, now they want to get money, thru a 3rd party - to enable them to continue financing their overstaffed, overpaid, incompetent and many cases dishonest cadres - Not a chance!!
Post me a SABC account - O dear you can't, you have also broken the post office and in my country town where I live there is no more post office or postal service - its gone - its broken - its been stolen, what ever - so I can't get your account and therefore Ican't pay you. SA is on well on the way to becoming a basket case.
