SABC will never threaten arrest for TV licence non-payment

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) says it will never threaten non-paying TV licence holders with a warrant of arrest.

This came in a warning from the public broadcaster regarding an email scam campaign, where malicious actors are impersonating the SABC and threatening to issue arrest warrants for failing to pay TV licence fees.

A scam that suspiciously benefits the SABC, a failing entity, should people happen to believe it...

by benefit i mean compliance in paying for a "service" only a limited portion of South Africans find useful.

I mean what are the chances?

But they have done this in the past? I call BS and they are just trying to cover their arses.

It's these collection agencies that buy debt from other agencies and get a room full of people to now harass citizens and get them to pay money owed. every few years I get some legal letter or email threatening me even tough I have not owned a TV since 1996. I politely tell them to prove I have owned a TV in this time since 1996 when I sent a cancellation letter with proof. Then they leave me alone for a few years.

Why do you even acknowledge their existence?

I just ignore them, and if one does somehow manage to get through to me, they get hung up on the second I figure out what its about.
