SAB's plans to brew Castle Lite using only renewable electricity and intends to brew from entirely renewable resources by 2025

Gross, I hope it fails, I hate Castle Lite

They will brew a lot less than before. No worries, Castle Lite won't pose any threat to you at all. You are likely to brew more home-made stuff than they will do with clean energy.

Why? Its a really good use case as they don't brew beer 24/7. They can plan the hours according to the solar output and use grid when needed.

I understand why any company (or anyone for that matter) would go off-grid. The unintended repercussions of such may be worse though for those without means to do so. Sad really but it is what it is - almost 14 years of load shedding is unacceptable.

By calling it "Castle Light", was that an attempt at a pun, or totally unintentional?? Ha ha

I have a feeling that not everyone here really understands what SAB is doing and what they actually mean with their statement:
We’re making the #SwitchToRenewable ‘cos by pulling less electricity from the grid to brew #CastleLite you get more electricity to do you. Find out more here: https://bit.ly/3C88ZWA
  1. They're not going off-grid, they are only pulling less electricity from the grid meaning that their solar installation is grid parallel, i.e. they're staying connected. They will thus run the plant just as before, no scheduling the plant with solar output nonsense. No power intensive industrial company would go off-grid.

  2. By them not pulling as much energy from the grid to run their operations, there is more electricity to go around to everyone else, i.e. they are increasing grid capacity at least during the day, i.e. reducing the risk of load shedding by a tiny fraction, hence the you get more electricity to do you.
