To add to that, we have a layer 2 between Teraco Isando and Teraco Rondebosch with protection. If we're running on the main path, it's fibre all the way with ping times around 16ms, but if someone puts a pick through a fibre outside Bloemfontein, we are switched to the protected path that includes at least two long range microwave hops in the Northern Cape. Then the ping times jump to around 30ms.

OK
Your Layer two link ALL within the same subnet ie NO routing ?
Is this -- "Metro-Ethernet" ?
Microwave hops -- sounds like you should know --"TowerGuru" ?

The big problem is that you can't force people to do the right thing. For example, I can't force someone to take a 20Mb FTTH uncapped, unshaped connection with a static IP address and native IPv6 from me. That person has freedom of choice to buy an inferior product for more money from another service provider.
YES I would take that IF it was available - where is the promotional material ?
These days people move into flats and pull their noses up if the network provider isn't "hip" - according to their standards.
Then you get spiteful people who move into the empty apartment and "protest" taking the fibre and physically break the cover plates off the walls and cement the wall boxes up and tile over them, or paint over them. Imagine the chaos when that clown moves on and the next person wants fibre.
WHAT kind of VERY strange people do you have where you are ?

That's a "Telkom" term. Other networks have similar terms, but it's essentially the same thing. SFP or RJ45 at point A, "magic" inbetween and SFP or RJ45 at point B. Or if it's a "cloud" solution", SFPs or RJ45s and C, D, E and F.

Seriously, people, are weird, "Oh what is this, buggered if I know, don't care either, but it is stopping me from putting couch, JUST where I want it, remove it." Out comes kitchen knife, and it is done.

Yes, we've done it successfully in two estates. SADV have done so in at least one estate I know of. Teralink does so in every estate. Everything goes well in the beginning, but once churn sets in, your switch ports go dead one after the other.

For example, I can't force someone to take a 20Mb FTTH uncapped, unshaped connection with a static IP address and native IPv6 from me. Sectional Title life is " interesting " :(
