SAFACT shutting down amid management scandal

The Southern African Federation Against Copyright Theft (SAFACT) is being shut down after companies that were members of the organisation withdrew their funding.

SAFACT was a non-profit company which existed with the support of companies such as Ster-Kinekor, MultiChoice, Disney Africa, and United International Pictures.

Feel sorry for the staff who got screwed over. Glad this parasite no longer exists.
Truth be told, they had some relevance in the early to mid 2000's when CD/DVD burners and blank media became affordable, together with the drop in the R/GB cost of hard drives.
With the advent of affordable, high-data-allowance, broadband, supplementing the former, together with streaming video/music and Steam/Origin/Office365/etc, there was no way in hell they could remained relevant.

Their funders were forced to innovate to attract paying customers as opposed to carry on fighting - I wonder how different things would have been if they started with innovation as opposed to investing into something like SAFACT.

"not following proper procedure" instead of "Willful misconduct"
"not keeping CIPC record updated" instead of "fiduciary duty failure"

SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!!!!

ok surprise level is at 0.0

Wow. Browsing their website and reading some their statements and strategies on piracy, in 2018, is laughable. It seems like they started to run out of relevance mid around mid 2016. https://www.saf-act.co.za/

Can't use words like theft/thieves to describe them... thats reserved for the real criminals, the pirates

The irony...on their own site. Seems funds were being withdrawn internationally as well, they should have seen it coming.

Get rid of the FPB. No use for an organization that duplicates the duties of foreign bodies that are much much much more reputable. They serve no purpose other than to impose a tax and raise the bar of entry for anyone new in the market.
