Safari problems on Yosemite 10.10.2

Hi all,

This has been happening for a while now but even with the latest Yosemite update it doesn't seem to be fixed.

On Safari I cannot access YouTube videos and if I do go to YT itself, it loads in a funny way (pic) and gives me a message saying something like "cannot verify the identity of ad.doubleclick.net" or something, and before this message a similar message pops up saying it can't verify the identity of youtube.com (I get this message popup for almost every website I visit). In fact any video on any website (embedded or not) won't work on Safari but will work just fine on Chrome.

Another problem is that I cannot access any Google accounts or websites besides for the Google search. E.g. Gmail or Google Finance just won't load.

I have the AdBlock extension installed and I've tried the following so far and none have worked:

- Uninstall Flash player, restart Mac, install Flash and restart Mac
- Clear Safari cache using the Develop mode, restart Safari
- Cleared all history and website data then restart Safari

Anyone else experiencing similar problems or has a solution? Google search reveals that people are having problems with YT on Safari however not exactly the same as mine

Thanks

That you can't access Google sites either indicates that there might be a problem with your browser settings. You may have them too restrictive.

I only use my MacBook and Safari to watch YouTube. I often have it running next to my desktop when viewing the YouTube tutorials. Have never had a problem. I don't use Adblock and try to avoid any browser extensions completely. I also don't use beta os or browser versions on this macbook.
When disabling or changing sessions, also close your browser and restart it before trying to access YouTube. You shouldn't have to restart your macbook, but that is worth trying.

What's your default webpage when you open Safari ?

The Favourites page

It used to work very nicely without any problems but then all of sudden one day out of the blue it started with these issues. And I remember very clearly not installing or modifying anything in the days preceding the start of the issue, it was quite literally random.

Safari on Yosemite doesn't seem to have that option anymore :(

Forgot about that. What happens when you create a new user account ?
Give that a try so we can isolate whether the problem is system wide or with just your account.

If it's only your user account that is exhibiting this kind of behaviour. Follow the below steps:

Hold the option key ->
On the Menu Bar click Go -> Library -> Preferences
delete com.Apple.Safari.plist

Return to the local library
-> Safari -> Extensions

Delete any suspicious looking extension in that folder.

Empty trash. Restart the Mac and let me know.

Well there seems to be a problem with my account because I created another account and YT & Google services work on there but not on my account.

I removed the com.apple.safari.plist and removed the dodgy extensions (of which there were quite a few) and restarted the mac, but still getting that funny look on YT with the same ad.doubleclick.net message and no google services work

Strange. i'd need to be with the Mac to further diagnose.

Check the below link. It might help.

Thanks for the link but pretty much none of those files/folders exist on my mac.

However when looking through the Safari preferences I did come across this and I'm pretty sure that's approximately when all these problems started.

I googled the problem and tried some of the solutions but none work :(

Just an update on this issue, it has fixed itself randomly but I checked now and the Google safe browsing service seems to be have been the problem because as soon as that updated it started working.

But thanks Lord Flacko for the future tips :)

Cool beans. So long as you're sorted.
