What salary can i expect at audit firm with articles finished and with degree in bcompt and bcom management. (5 years exp) . Please help i have gone for interview and they said i have the job. But we still need to agree on a salary. Thx

How have you managed to get to a job offer situation without addressing compensation at all? Sounds very odd. Few companies would ever get to this point without first asking you. And it's something that should have come up in the second interview - and not some arbitrary beating around the bush - but an actual discussion about the remuneration...

Thats the point, they asked me what i will expect as salary, i dont know whats the market related salary is at an audit firm. So thats why i ask what i can expect to ask/get. I dont want to go over the top and lose there interest.

what hours? levels of responsibility? relocation or prospects of being relocated or dashed off on secondments to clients?

All of these sorts of questions tie to remuneration and what sort of remuneration you should expect. Its an audit firm so I assume you are selling your soul to corporate and the remuneration is somewhat accordingly pegged
On the other hand I knew a chartered accountant about 10 years ago working then for about 8k a month because she had scope to do exclusively non-profits and enjoyed the job opportunity it afforded - comfy office access to various resources and doing the work she loved

Actually its par for the course...especially for the Big 4 firms. You pretty much sign up without knowing what you're being paid....except that it'll be in line with the other 3 big companies.

Remember some of these contracts are signed 4 years in advance so its a leap of faith anyway.

He can try...OP is likely to have near zero negotiating power though. The big audit firms don't negotiate....they get a pile of applicants, pick the top few and pay them per a fixed schedule.

R15k is R3k more than what the platinum miners are asking for minimum pay - unschooled labor
I would sincerely hope articles + a degree are worth more than that...

I'm guessing R20-R25k would be a reasonable expectation considering 5 years of experience is still pretty junior.

Then again, if they're offering you more than you're currently getting then go for it.

Mate, as part of research you do before an interview, you need to know what you're expecting. If you don't know what you're worth, or what your peers are earning, it shows you in an unprofessional light.

I'd have to agree though that R15000 pm is a bit under market.

Slightly off topic - I went for an interview once, they asked for my current payslip and it was still 2 additional interviews after that. I received the offer at lower than my current ... and obviously declined.

But was thinking why even bother in the first place - just wasted both our times :/

You're not obligated to give them your slip, though, are you?

I think that's rather rude. :wtf: As they're considering paying you based on what you currently earn,
not purely on your skillset and experience. I'd tell them to get stuffed.

Everyone says no - but the job I'm at currently is the only one that hasn't asked. They're not always small companies either - MWEB Business, Westcon/Comztek etc

It seems to be a norm and when you go through a recruitment agent, seems that 99% ask before the interview is arranged. I've never declined, but something tells me that a decline would mean no job
