My point is, technology evolves, stop living in the past, move forward.

Sure, but Bluetooth just doesn't work that well.

I have Sennheiser headphones that use a different digital wireless technology, that is much better than Bluetooth.

What is wrong with bluetooth?

Me? yes. But I'm not every single use case, am I? I was more describing the situation of a friend. But can you see the problem?

Agree, if only car radios came with CD-to-MP3-Converters as well.

Ok, tell me, does your S7edge have an IR Blaster? And my silly V20 now has a USB C type port. Damnit, now my car charger doesn't work anymore

My point is, technology evolves, stop living in the past, move forward.

Not living in the past. If a feature is taken away it must be replaced with a better one e.g. Micro USB got USB-C. We are now at point where we were in 2005, with proprietary ports, if own an iPhone you need to Lightening Headphones if on Android USB-C Headphones. As I understand it, BT in both cases doesn't take advantage of the powerful audio AMPs in our smartphones so you are getting worse music quality when using BT.

I'm not living in the past, the OEMs are taking us straight back to it :p these are inconveniences I had 10years ago, then the 3.5mm jack became standard and I could use it on all my phones, tablets and laptops, now AGAIN I have to get multiple accessories to get good audio quality. Urrgh.

Replaced by better? Ok, so tell me all the different things you can use your 3mm jack for? Now list me all the things you can use bluetooth for.

If you are can hear the difference between your wired earphones and your bluetooth headset, you either have a schitty bluetooth set, or your have the hearing of a dog and is most probably in the wrong profession.

And let's then also look at this little accessory you got with the iPhone, and probably will with the S8

Different amplification. No way a wireless unit will have the same quality DAC and amplification characteristics as a wired unit, because battery life is a thing.
A R2k set of wired headphones driven from a proper source vs a R2k wireless headset driven from the same source, really won't sound the same.
Unless you're half deaf of course, like my mother. Can't distinguish between a R100k home theater system or a R100k Chinese no name brand speaker playing in a toilet.

Are we talking about a proper source, or a cellphone?

My V20 comes with this awesome thing called "Hi Fi Quad DAC", only works with earphones (wired). I plug it in, and toggle.... wtf, i can't tell the difference.

Some cellphones actually have pretty good DACs built in. The Galaxy S6 is actually quite up there. The iPhone 6s also has excellent amplification circuitry. Hell, the LG V10 has a 32 bit DAC. No idea what the V20 uses.

If you can't hear the difference between either of those handsets and a lesser handset, using a good quality set of earphones or earbuds and something like a well encoded FLAC file, the shortcoming is in your hearing, not on the device side.

It is another annoyance. I get the whole evolving technology but no OTHEr options?

1. Adapters - fokoff, if i wanted adapters i would buy an apple.
2. Bluetooth - Will they match my sennheiser earbuds and cost the same price? I highly doubt it.
3. Bluetooth again - ANOTHER thing i have to charge. How long does the battery last? so i can only listen to music for 5 hours? + Added battery causes added weight. no.

Fortunately you have the choice of not purchasing a Samsung. They've really lost the plot.
The last Galaxy I was really impressed by was the S2.

There is nothing wrong with my hearing, but my wife might disagree.

Here is a comparison of the V20 vs V10 and another phone: http://www.androidauthority.com/lg-v20-audio-capabilities-714807/

I have the phone next to me hear, earphones plug in, toggle DAC button.... if I tell you the difference is 5%, it's a lot.

If you are a true audiophile, are you going to use your cellphone?
Also, if you use MP3s as your source, I don't think you'll really hear the difference between bluetooth and a wired earphone connection.

Depends on the bit rate of the MP3. 128kbps? For sure, anything will sound... less than good. 256kbps? Different story.

My S6 battery life is down to about half a day. Due to be replaced in the next couple of months. Thinking Apple 6s.

Merchants use 3.5mm jacks to do card payments, I'm sure you've seen what I'm talking about.

I use a pair of Sennheiser CX300-IIs, going between them and a BT headset does make a diff, even when you use the adapter, as BT doesn't use the DAC.

Yes, I know that little accessory, you know how? Its similar to the ones we used to get in the box back in 2005 with phones that did not have a built-in 3.5mm jack. That little accessory proves the point that removing 3.5mm jack isn't a great idea. Going back to your car analogy, when they took the CD Player out, they didn't put an external CD player did they? No.

que? have not seen that. do they use their phones 3.5mm jack?

Of course that makes a difference, but is it because of the way they are connected, or is it because the Sennheiser is a great piece of equipment vs the bluetooth headset? Be honest. :)

The accessory is not there to replace the missing jack completely, but purely there for you to still use your old hardware with this "new" piece of technology ;)

The BT headphones are a older SE headset, but even with a BT adapter on the Sennheisers, there is still some noise.

Pfff, 'new' piece of tech my arse

Samsung must just keep the 3.5mm jack! Why let a good thing go.

LOL!

I just want my audio jack, fanie!

Why do Samsung keep taking things away from me, it all began with the S6, they took the IR Blaster, MicroSD, and removable battery.

They must just leave my 3.5mm audio jack!
