Samsung 40" HDMI port problems, won't work with ANY PC?

Hello guys,

About a year ago my family purchased two Samsung LA40D503F7R 40" TVs from Tafelberg Furnishers in Diep River. The one TV has largely been unused for a number of reasons. I have moved in the house and started making use of the one TV, however it seems the HDMI port has problems. On the one TV everything appears to work perfectly - media player, PC, laptop, etc. The other I cannot get ANY PC or laptop to work, the media player randomly turns on after about 5 minutes (when plugging in, a slight flicker occurs), but an Xbox 360 works 100% perfectly.

I returned the TV to Tafelberg Furnishers and it took about three weeks to a month for it to be collected by Liptronics, a Samsung service company. The job number states the date 22/01/2014. I then received the TV back but the fault was exactly the same. George at Liptronics called me and explained it was run through their systems and no problems were found, and that I must be selecting the wrong settings. However considering I own two of them, I can tell the one is performing erratically?

I have tried contacting George at Liptronics and Samsung a few times but they never get back to me. Tafelberg Furnishers are trying to follow up but still, to do this date, there is no progress. I have also made a post on the Samsung South Africa Facebook Page and they asked me to email, but still no follow up.

So does this sound like a fault or is there something I can check?

Buy a brand new HDMI cable and see if that makes a difference regardless if it works on a different TV.

..... or try the one that you're using on the other TV.

I've tried numerous HDMI cables of all different brands. Doesn't make any difference.

A friend of mine has the same problem. The HDMI ports don't work at all though

Do the PC and Laptop pick up that the TV is connected, but the screen is just blank or are they not detecting it at all?

Defiantly sounds like a fault with the TV.

They don't pick anything up. They do flicker for a split second so something is happening. If I plug in the HDMI and boot I get no POST screen etc.

Other TV needs HDMI for media player, which doesn't work 100% Also not ideal 'just to swap' when the TV has probably been turned on under 50 hours, it's under guarantee, and we spent A LOT of money at the store (15-20k) so it should be sorted out immediately

Are the PC graphic drivers the latest and the output settings correct?
I had similar with my Sammy and it turned out the GPU drivers needed updating. How long is the cable between PC and TV?

Not sure how true it is, but have always been told to never connect/disconnect HDMI cables with either device powered on. Has become second nature to me now to switch off first when working with HDMI cables; no issues so far ;)
