Hi, my friend has a samsung DVD-Rom/CD rom  , the only problem is that it doesnt read DVD's, if you put an orginal or copied CD in, it works fine but the moment you put any kind of DVD in original or copied, the DVD just spins really fast and nothing else happens.

Its not new I think its actually quite old since most DVD-roms would either be writers or beable to write CD's at least.

Any ideas how to fix?

All advice welcome
Thanx in advance
S1ght :)

Did he "upgrade" the firmware to get rid of region checking? If so, try putting the original firmware back. I find I have to replace DVD drives every 18 months or so - probably nicotine stains on the lens! But Samsung is crappy stuff anyway.

Agree with Aspersie... Samsung SUX!
What you can try is a little utility called DVD Region free. Clears up a lot of region problems.
Good luck!

Some of the older DVD ROM's has a problem in reading DVD+R/RW's and most of the DVD's that come with magazines are DVD+R. My son had the same problem and it was time to get him a DVD writer anyway. Best is to replace.
