That's why I went with the Note 2 and Smart 150 + 5GB data for R299. ;)

To me it's all about value for money.

Me too. Got mine yesterday, was lucky to get it was the last one in stock.haha. Thanks for the push Kingrob. Really pleased with the data and got good coverage at home!!!

Excellent value.

I echo many of your sentiments...
R499 for a non-LTE phone is way too much.
And as for the 5GB data (also remember that this is only on the TM network) it's a nice to have for many of us who are already well-connected.
My total data availability is 40GB/month at home and mobile. Yes, if I want to use this away from home, I would have to setup a mobile wifi hotspot on a device with data and then connect to that device (only for data-intensive purposes). Admit this is not as convenient as having 5Gb data on a phone, but once setup, it's a breeze.

And don't forget that you get 1Gb Alwayson wifi data per month on Samsung devices, and 10Gb Telkom Mobile wifi data per month. This is an additional 32 Gb wifi data I have available. There are quite a lot of TM hotspots (surprisingly) in the Jhb area.

Size what size:) It really doesn't bother me one bit, had the Motorola Razr before.

Did you get a cover for yours. I bought a capdase cover but want to get a otter box for my new precious.

Telkom Mobile is selling the Exynos Chipset one.

Been to the Telkom store earlier today, had a look at the Demo unit...N9005 (Snapdragon). Store manager however advised that they know nothing of the package and expect stock by 1 November only.

Would they have a working demo unit of one model and package another? :(

On the TM Facebook page, they replied and said it's the N9000. They are clueless as to what's going on.

Are you sure it wasnt the N9005X ?

The S4 demo units are i9505x regardless of which variant the store will carry
i9500 is the non LTE model which cell c has, but their demo unit is i9505x
A sim will not work in these units

So it will probably be the same for the Note 3

Hi hcpeer

Would you kindly PM us the Manager's name that you spoke to today at the Maponya?

We have not pushed back the launch of this handset on our network and would like to find out where he got the information he provided you.

Thanks
Telkom Mobile

Nicolway Store have no visibility of the packages on offer either!

Was definitely the N9005 on demo.

Further to this, the store manager insisted that Telkom network supports the LTE range compatible with the Galaxy Note 3 (N9005). Is this factually accurate? has the launch been delayed due to an upgrade on infrastructure and staggered launch in some areas to accomodate the upgrade perhaps?

TM uses the 2300Mhz spectrum for LTE, which is not supported by a lot of smartphones' radios.

Note 3:
4G Network LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 - N9005
LTE 700 / 1900 / 2100 - N900W8

Telkom, per site: http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
South Africa 3G 900/2100

4G LTE Vodacom and 4G LTE MTN in Johannesburg, Cape Town; 8ta LTE trials

Where do we get the 2300 band info from that Telkom is using? (not doubting info stated earlier, just want my decision to use another carrier to be based on fact)

Update: Found the validation on http://www.telkommobile.co.za/services/lte/
"You will need an LTE capable device that works on the 2300 MHz frequency band...."
Which means at best, even with a N9005 (Snapdragon), the best we can achieve will be the 3g band! hmmmm....

I have the Note II and I love it, but I wouldn't mind the 3. The screen is gorgeous.

Note 3 price cut at Altech Autopage...R399pm (from R419); choose your network, MTN, Vodacom or Cell-C.
Each with their own monthly benefits.
MTN and Vodacom give you 200MB data; MTN offers R200 airtime value. Vodacom also offers 200MB, but only 75 minutes.
Cell-C has 100MB data and 100 minutes.

Prices to add on monthly data varies from R120 for 500 MB on Vodacom, to R70 for 500 MB on Cell-C.
Non-LTE, N9000 device.

Only bummer is the add-on compulsory costs which have kept me away from Altech and Nashua in the past:
3 month compulsory SIM insurance @ R4.50 and mandatory itemised billing @ R21 for 6 months.
Not sure what else is mandatory thereafter, such as service fees, etc...

I've only heard of people who've had issues with these independent SPs and am VERY reluctant to try them but then again, how much worse can they be than TM, who has fed us nothing but untruths and left us with disappointments?

Can anyone comment on Altech and their service and costs?
