when you guys received your Note 4, how long did you charge it the first time and did you use the phone first thing out of the box in order to drain the bit of battery life, then charged it or did you charge it from the get-go? the online manual states that you should charge the battery fully before you use the phone for the first time... just want some opinions please. my wife's S4 was charged first thing for 12h and her battery life is much better than my S4, 18 months on. i used mine out of the box until the battery died. i then charged it for 5hours and that was it. now, she still gets to 50% at the end of the day (using it much more than me) and i get to 10%-15%... is this really a battery issue? how sensitive are the Samsung phones for signal searching and does this affect the battery heavily?

I charged it until its full, and used it since. Played till it went completely flat and charged till it's full again.
Never overcharged it, and sometimes use "Fast charge"

My battery lasts about 1 -2 days, max 3 days.

Your wife's phone has half the display resolution of yours, much less pixels to push - of course she will have the edge. :)

The modern batteries does not require the old 1990s "first charge for 16 hours" nonsense anymore.

Use your phone until battery is at 10%, plug charger in, unplug charger when phone is fully charged.

I'm actually abusing my battery quite a bit (unplug it before it's fully charged, do short charges, etc), that's why I have a brand new spare one in my drawer for when the current battery starts malfunctioning. :D

Easy peasy. ;)

I used my phone straight away out of the box without charging it first. When I charge my phone, I do so until it's 100%. My battery life is better than that of my Note 3.

Perfect.

When your battery is low, just plug the charger in. When your battery doesn't last long, 99% of the time it's an app malfunctioning an causes battery drain. Uninstall the app = problem fixed.

If you feel your screen time is not enough, just buy a new battery and make yourself happy. :)

I simply don't spend time worrying about my phone's battery life anymore.

Just plug in the charger.

she shouldn't have the edge. the s4 battery is not the best there ever was, it's actually schit. the note 4 should beat it hands down, without even blinking.

I did the same!

I always reckon - if the battery is damaged by my impatience, I'll just buy a new one. :D

Most probably an app causing battery drain then.

when your battery is empty, have a look at the battery stats before putting it on charge, to see if there is something that is abnormally high. if not, try and do a factory reset. first only load the essential apps, and then the nice to haves one by one, to see if there are any battery performance changes.

lithium batteries do not need to be charged for hours on end like the old ones used to. my phone get's charged very randomly. sometimes by car charger on my way home, most of the time not until it's full. the battery is not your problem, it must be something else. or you might then have a faulty battery.

I have rooted mine and disabled quite a few apps and system processes I dont use, in conjunction with Greenify.

Can expect at least 12h longer battery life when done correctly :)

I'm surprised how many staff at Cell shops still give you this rhyme when you get a new phone from them.

Hahaha....it was the law in the 1990s!

You better not use your Nokia before it hasn't been charged for at least 16 hours! :p

Lots of youngsters then, who are parents now, who still teach their kids this. Bless them.

thanks for the feedback guys.

we are both picking up our Note 4's this coming friday.

come to think of it, i have got Avast! anti virus on my phone and she doesn't... it might be the antivirus then?

is it REALLY necessary for an antivirus app on a phone? i don't visit dodgy sites and stuff and only download apps via Play store...

does "fast charge" have a negative effect on the battery long term or is this also a myth?

Uninstall it ASAP and get your phone back!

If your phone is not enabled to download files/apps from unknown sources, there is really no reason to have anti-virus on Android.

Settings > Security > Then under Device Administration, check that "Unknown Sources" is unticked and that "Verify Apps" is ticked.

When you have this setup, any malicious app/s will be remotely uninstalled by Google if they determine that it might be harmful to your phone.
