I got one last year and am still very happy - the only issue is the lack of a flash.

It is exactly two years old, if your choice is between the Galaxy S1 and one of the cheaper Galaxy phones then the S1 is a clear winner in most cases. Although you might want to look around the S2 should be getting quite cheap now.
