How do you do the OTA update? If I go to my phone it says it is updated (gingerbread) and i must check back in like 10 hours, but I know that is old and all other sites say the jellybean update is available.

Forgot about this thread, sorry! :(

Just go to Settings > About Device > Software Update & make sure you're connected to wifi, as it's a 600MB download, if memory serves me right.

Good luck!! :)

hey guys Kies can Kies my ass, I did it like a real ou.

So I go to Samsung and download the programe and it don't work so I go to filehippo and the same but then I have found that I need Kies 2.6 so go looking again and think I downloaded it but still nothing except "go tell Bill at microsoft that Kies has a problem".

I delete avast and every flippin anti virus I can find and re-install the muthafluffer again and again it tells me to "kies its errors". Now I am pissed. I try one more time because I want to update from Gingerbreadman to Jellydoughnut now. I activate the program and when I see it coming up and think I have it, the flippin error message comes up but I get a gedagte to just move the error message window out of the way and connect my phone to the pc whilst Kies is on the screen. Now my brow is sweating and my loins are leaking water as I watch things happen, moving my mouse every so often across the screen to make sure no sleep mode comes on or script message etc and after what seemed like an eternity, I finally upgraded my phone from gingerbreadman 2.3.x (or something like that) to jellybean doughnut 4.1.2.

I am a risk taker for sure.

...so none of you are running custom roms?
Do yourselves a favour and look into it, it's not like any of us are still under warranty!
Better UI, better battery life, better performance, better customizability, just a bit of a pain figure out how to do it at first.
Also you don't have to deal with Kies anymore...haven't had to use it at all since I've had my S2

what gives you the idea no one in here is running a custom ROM? LOL

I think I've only seen 1 person in here which does NOT have a custom ROM, and that only happened yesterday LOL

The fact that the last few pages of this thread have no mention of custom roms whatsoever and that nobody replied to my question regarding a new custom rom...:(

Cyanogenmod and you are sorted.
I'm currently running Resurrection Remix 4.0.7, which is based on an Android 4.2 AOKP rom.
CM doesn't offer all the customizability I like and doesn't look as good.
Is it worth going to KK from JB on the S2?

I was lucky to get my S2 as a free upgrade :) Had a S+ on contract, but there was a problem with Wifi that caused the phone to restart randomly. Problem was fixed with the next Android update, but typically SA, we didn't get the update. So after a few months of back and forth with Vodacom, they eventually sent me an S2. Really awesome phone, will use it till it dies (in the distant future).

I recently installed CM10 with their new installer, works like a charm coming from stock ROM. Didn't even lose any of the data on my phone. Waiting for them to release CM11 on the installer for S2 but I will probably have to flash that myself sometime.

Any improvement in battery life or ram usage?

Nope. If any, it probably got worse. But battery life is battery life. It will never last long enough. I'm not going to jump through a million hoops just to save 5%. I want to use my phone, I want to enjoy my phone. I'm not going to display all the different features and avoid certain apps because they might use like 2% battery.

The S2 will last long. The battery, unfortunately, not. :(
I have it for 2 years and previous owner 2 years. With CM11 it feels like a brand new phone.

I thought the whole point of KK was to be a lighter OS so that even low ram phones could run it, with improved battery life being a bonus?
Oh well I'll just find a better JB rom

Yeh, if battery life is important for you... look elsewhere until they can release a stable L later this year me thinks.

Battery life is better on SlimRom than Resurrection. Remember these are stable versions so good enough for a daily driver. Looks like CM not doing anything for the s2 on the stable roms anymore.

I have a samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 and a samsung galaxy s2 and a digiland android tablet and the digiland tablet has the latest update on it if I compare it to the galaxy tab. If i could root one of the android devices it would be the digiland device but i know zip about rooting devices but if there was a 1-root option where just downloading an app and clicking a button did everything, then I would be there in a flash.

Cyanogenmod has an automated installer for the S2.
