That is not nice. That is also why I always recommend not to use the devil's software. Did you not sync your contacts with Google?

hmmm, now you mention it, I don't know. Kies really sucks if that is the only way to upgrade or backup your junk. I cannot remember if I backed up my junk another way but am still messing with the setting and programs and maybe something comes up.

For those running ROMs, do they off3r the option of re partitioning?
The wife's phone is still running 4.1.2, which she is complaining about especially the 2 Gb app partition, I want to just run one 16gb partition.

None that I have seen. I believe that may be a hard partition?

Do you think it's better than CM11? Is it lighter on the battery or is there anything specific you like?
They really sorted out some of the gripes many people had with Slim 4.4.2 that were addressed in things like NeatROM. Battery life is about the same or slightly better but the idiotic Google Play Services drain was still there. I fixed that with the GServiceFix app. I am not familiar with CM11 - I've always opted to flash things like Resurrection, Slim, Omega, etc ROMS.

Still runnung SlimKAT 4.4.2 on S2 but struggling with OTA updates..
I'd suggest you do a clean install of SlimKAT 9. My phone was very sluggish after I did a dirty flash from that version you have.

I am not 100% sure but since I have my smart watch, my phone announces each page I scroll through on my phone and cannot find the setting to switch it off. i thought it was the accessibility setting or something like that but I don't find anything on, what could it be?

I am having some problems with CM11. When listening to music Apollo hangs sometimes. Also get weird crashes from time to time, but nothing major. Did a clean install with all the memory wipes a while back, but after install all the data on the phone was still there. Could it be that it did not wipe properly? I'll try and install Slimrom over the weekend, see how it goes.

Thanks

Having the same issue with Cyanogen now. Will try and install SLIMKAT rom to see which is hassle free.

I installed Slimrom 9 over the weekend. Did the full wipe/clear cache exercise. In the beginning it seemed like it is a lot more stable but during the week the music player froze again. This also froze the clock (found out next morning only) so better restart if it hangs. I also miss some CM features like answer call with home button, which Slimrom doesn't have. Had a few incidents where I press home and then the call answer button goes to the status bar and I cannot pull it down until the caller hangs up :( then I have to phone back.

I don't think I'll go back to CM though, as this ROM is working well and battery life seems better. Just wish I could sort out the music player issue.

Why does Samsung only upgrade the firmware on certain models of devices? How do they rollout these upgrades?

Google releases new version > Samsung decides only flagship models get the update, and add all their stuff onto it > VC, MTN and CellC decide if they want to roll out this updates to the phones on their network. This is where it mostly falls flat, and a lot of time is lost. The cell companies have to "test" each build on their network, and I don't think they want to test a lot of different versions the whole time. That is why you see only flagship model get updated and maybe only 1 or 2 updates.

I had to completely format my internal storage before that problem went away with all music players. Wiped everything except boot and did a clean flash of SlimKAT 9. I am ot sure what the cause is but I suspect it was due to file system corruption or similar as I could not copy some content to my laptop before I formatted the phone.

That might be part of my problem. Sometimes when I copy large files onto or off my phone it becomes unresponsive and I have to unplug it or switch it to Mass Storage mode instead of MTP. So did you go into recovery and format from there? I did the following from Slimrom's installation procedures (CM is the same I think):

choose advanced in wipe section and wipe dalvik, cache, system and data

What else did you format? While the install is new I would rather redo it and try and solve the problem.

Thanks
