So I downloaded CM13 and the pico GApps package. Reboot into recovery and install CM13. GApps fails due to lack of memory. Which is weird. Tried clearing everything, still couldn't install it. So I boot into CM13, set up the phone and it looks nice. Reboot into recovery, and now I cannot install anything. Immediately just says failed. Seems the CM13 recovery cannot mount the system partition so you cannot access any files. So I am stuck.

Trying to get Odin going now to flash a different recovery and see if I can get it working, otherwise it is back to CM11.

I ended up repartitioning the device due to there not being enough space on the data partition.

From CM13, I repartitioned with a pit file and kernel (with TWRP recovery) in Odin.
Then the latest nightly of CM, Pico Gapps and lastly Isorec recovery (always last before reboot) and reboot.

Nice. Is it faster than CM12? My phone froze often with 12 on, so I am back on 11. If 13 is better I will go to that.

Did you have to install a different Gapps package?
My phone is fast with no noticeable lag.

Thanks. I tried installing again but kept on getting an error about something unexpected after OTA update. Seems to be a common problem but I couldn't really find a solution. Back on CM11 again now. Will try again with the next nightly maybe.

Thanks for the help.

Seems my S2 has decided to give up. Mom has been using the phone and now it turns on but stays on the screen with the phone name on.

Bought a new battery and still doesn't boot properly. Plug it into charge and battery comes up but freezes. Any ideas on what's wrong?

I had that... trying to remember what I did to fix.

"Press and hold the Power key, the Volume up key, and the Home button together. Release when you see the Samsung logo. You can select the option you want from the menu using the Volume keys to highlight and the Power key to select."

Just did that and went to green man, then phone restarted. Stuck on logo again.

I don't do OTA updates anymore, since the Cyanogenmod Recovery that get installed with CM13 is useless. You need to install from CWM or TWRP recoveries in order to flash GApps and Isorec recovery (to have a usable recovery after every update) after the OS update.

That's will allow you to factory reset.

Seems I have hard bricked the phone... Lol. Doesn't respond to anything now.

Try taking the battery out for a few hours, then do the Power key, the Volume down key, and the Home button thing.

That is the strange thing, it wasn't an OTA update. I downloaded the latest nightly CM13 and installed it from CWM. The first time it worked fine, but I couldn't install GApps. Then I couldn't install anything because of the dud recovery from CM. Somewhere there the CM13 zip file went missing, so I copied it back after I reinstalled CWM with Odin and put CM11 on again. Tried to reinstall CM13 but then each time I got the error mentioned above. Strange that it worked the first time. It is unlikely that the zip file on my PC got corrupted, so I don't know what it could be. Will download the next nightly and try again. Will also have a look at Isorec, haven't seen that before. Thanks

Downloaded today's nightly. Tried to install from recovery. Error, cannot open file (bad). So I assume the download got corrupted somehow. Can my recovery be too old?

I hope you are now happily using Marshmallow.
If not:

All files in previous posted links.

In Odin, I loaded a pit file from the pit_files.zip and kernel-Lanchon... and let it do its thing.
Wait till success show even if your phone go off and on.

Then to recovery. Wipe all the data dalviks etc.
Flash cm-13-nightly, then open_gapps and lastly recovery-Lanchon-IsoRec. Reboot after doing suggested (by TWRP) wipes.

Done.

(remember to flash isorec recovery after every cm13 update)

Edit: I think the kernel I used was in the Google translated link earlier posted, not the kernel-Lanchon one above

Thanks for the guide. I have not managed to get it working at all. Tried the two subsequent dailies and checked the SHA1 value to make sure it downloaded properly. The error I get can apparently be fixed by editing one of the text files in the zip file. I haven't tried it yet. Apparently the installer seems to think the update is not correct for my phone, so it gives that error. Deleting out the check allows it to proceed. My phone is definitely a GT-I9100 and that is listed in the zip file, so not sure if that will solve the problem.

After a lot of searching I basically came to the same conclusion on what to do as what you have posted. I need to flash the new pit file to repartition. Because this completely wipes the memory it seems to help with other random issues as well. I just need to backup my phone again and I will try this out. At least I now got Odin working so I can try this out.
