Samsung Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra

Weekly poll results: the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE needs a price cut

The results are in from last week’s poll and they are not encouraging – most voters believe that the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is overpriced. How come?

Well, part of the problem is that the phone comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage as standard. While you can’t have more RAM, you could get 256GB storage. But since 128GB is pretty tight these days, people are looking at the 256GB price tag, not the 128GB one. That makes the FE feel expensive, especially when compared to mid-rangers from other brands, which start at 8/256GB or even 12/256GB.

It’s not just other brands too, with a bit of patience and shopping around, you can get a great deal on Samsung’s own Galaxy S24+ for around the same price as the S24 FE. There is an argument to be made that the FE will get its own deals and discounts down the road, but it just doesn’t look competitively priced at launch.

That isn’t necessarily true everywhere, some commenters report great deals on the Galaxy S24 FE in their region. That said, chances of the FE becoming a global hit are slim.

Interestingly, we saw multiple commenters lamenting the end of the higher-tier Galaxy A phones, the A70 and A80 series. In a way, the S24 FE fills that spot, but again, the pricing is more S-series than A-series and that is an issue.

lol, you didn't tag the relevant parties (prob for the best)

This is linked in the iPhone 16 thread as well.

Some okes get super worked up for the small stuff.

I'm neutral & value all sides of tech.
Exactly, they can stroll on to it naturally

I really don’t understand the reason for the existence of the FE models…

I think this is where Samsung gets distracted and creates a messy line-up.

The A55 or an A7X should be the budget flagship. The A55 is already about 90% of what the S24 FE is. An A7X could cover the rest. The S series should not be “budget” in any way, shape or form. There needs to be clear market differentiation between their devices.

Also, given how Samsung S devices are often available at decent prices, the need for a budget version of the phone seems unnecessary. The FE version of the S series devices does nothing more than dilute the S brand.

In my opinion, the A0X to A2X should be grouped together as the entry level devices (plastic backs, thicker bezels, 2 cameras, etc.) with a different letter designator, not A. The A3X to A7X should be the budget flagships (glass and aluminium build, thinner bezels, previous generation flagship features, Exynos chips). The S series should be 100% flagship and untouchable in that regard with the greater line-up.

Just my 2 cents…

Isn't it similar to the Apple SE to iPhones ?
No. The SE is clearly separated from the rest of the line-up. In my opinion, Apple succeeds in branding, and subsequent profit potential, through clear product differentiation. A company should create its own hype and its own appeal.

Disclaimer: I am only speaking about Apple in response to the above post. This is not to incite an AvS war. I am not an Apple “fanboy”.

I guess the Samsung A series is similar to what the SE is to iPhone.

Anyone seen a S24 on sale, only found this ?
