Samsung Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra

I updated to UI 7 via ODIN with the EUR version. My CSC is still XFA. There is a new May Update coming out. If anyone gets the May update locally OTA, let me know. I am hoping to still receive the local updates and not sideload again.

I got the May update yesterday on my S24FE - the security patches usually arrive between the 20th of a month and the 22nd - even One UI7 was two to two and a half weeks later than the rest of the world OTA here in ZA

my CSC is actually OJM BUT AFAIK you will get the ZA updates OTA if you have the XXS software version

Wandering into this thread.

How is the S24FE?
Thinking about it over an A56. It's some few Rk more.
Replacing a......Huawei P30 Lite.

it depends on what you are after from the phone - the S24FE has the extra AI stuff from the flagships and it has Dex as well and the A56 doesn't feature any of those but the A56 has a bigger battery and 45 watt charging so it charges very much quicker - the S24FE has a fairly better 10 core CPU with a better GPU so it performs better in most benchmarks

but that's about it besides for other tiny differences ie S24FE has IP68 water protection while the A56 has IP67 (no idea what the difference is) but the AI features most people call them gimmicky and not everyone wants to use DEX though personally i have expended upon the Dex aspects as detailed here but not everyone wants to use Dex

the A56 gets 6 generations of guaranteed updates but it was released with One UI7 natively while the S24FE gets 7 generations but it was released with One UI6.1 - so they will be updated for exactly the same amount time so besides for whatever i have said above its up to a coin toss and whether you want to spend the extra cash on features that you may or may not use

Also got the May security update.

The S24fe also has better camera array with telephoto vs macro

sure but in real life practical applications how many people who buy phones of this level are after more than a basic point-n-click camera ..... to be honest - sometimes i can actually take better photos with my S24FE cameras than some of my buddies with ultras because those guys haven't got a clue how to make those camera's work AND it can also work conversely - the guys could take better pictures that they require with the A56 than with the S24FE (i have seen a review where the A56 photos looked brighter and more vivid than the ones from the S24FE while the S24FE looked nuetral and natural and IMHO most people are going to say that the A56 photos look better notwithstanding the type of lenses each phone uses)

so once again it depends if the guy is a photography enthusiast in which case he wont be looking at phones of this level but he would be looking for models with way better camera functionality in a similar price level

if we nitpick there are many more reasons why an S24FE would be better and similarly why a A56 has a few features that an S24FE is lacking but he can check those things up at the reviews and GSMarena - though IMHO it is worth spending a few bob extra and getting the S24FE but i'm biased because i already have an S24FE

Yeah wireless charging, better cpu, better screen, better camera array.
The A56 is a good phone but compared to the S24FE the FE just wins.

while you are giving these details also don't forget the reverse wireless charging - if your buddys phone has wireless charging and his battery runs low you can charge his phone with yours

Thanks.

Yeh don't care much for the Dex and AI stuff.
For me is long term stability/survival.
Have my Huawei for about 6 years now. There are new apps that work on other phones but not on mine (mainly security access stuff). Eventually it's going to grind to a halt.
Agree the S24FE is a better phone on paper, and likely reality. The only thing I wonder about is I heard some issues on the S series re. overheating and poor battery life.

the S24FE does not use the same SOC as the other S phones - it uses the exynos 2400e while the S24/S24+ use the exynos 2400 (the e version is slightly underclocked) and the S24 Ultra uses the Snapdragon 8 gen 3

so far i haven't encountered too many heating issues but i am less likely to notice because i use a very thick case so if it overheats i don't feel my phone getting hot - under normal use i also don't encounter poor battery life but i charge every night when i go to sleep - its got a slightly smaller capacity battery than the other S series phones, but Samsung offers lots of battery protection features BUT its a Samsung and parts will be plentiful ie if the battery dies it wont be like my Poco which was never available here officially so its impossible to get a battery BUT instead i will be able to get original Samsung batteries or loads of cheapie generics from every corner Pakistani cell phone shop

i have never had the battery run out on me at a vital time yet, but i am light on the batteries besides when i demo my Dex stuff at which point it can and will run out quickly if i use it to power on the 15,6" monitor without using the powerbank. However if you are unsure then maybe better to chose another model or brand that inspires more confidence in you
