Hi,

I bought a secondhand Galaxy S3 about two months ago. It was working 100% until last week. Now it just says not registered on the network (Vodacom). I cannot connect, no matter what I try - reboot, reset to factory settings, log off, log on, switch to GSM only, nothing helps. iFIX just says that they cannot fix the phone, without a decent explanation. Please help! How can I go about to get it back up and running?

I had this problem with the S1 I'm using.

Dial *#06# and make a note of the IMEI number. Then pull out the battery, and check if it's the same IMEI number at the back of the battery. If it's not it means you had the same problem as I; the installed ROM changed the IMEI number, and to fix that you need to flash a stock ROM.

"secondhand Galaxy S3" you might have bought a stolen phone i.e. your phone might be blacklisted. It normally takes +-2 months for the blacklist to kick in.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was my S3 stolen from Greenpoint. It was on a cellc contract but cellc was not helpful in blocking it,i did however manage to block it on vodacom.Your post reminded me of my warm welcome by 2 nigerian okes.In a nutshell it seems you have bought a stolen phone and that is why iFix refused to repair it.Try to check with vodacom or use the following website : http://www.imei.info/

Well since someone might have been dishonest about it, I would just change the IMEI in that case :D Buy a R50 Hong Kong Ling Long phone and change the S3's to that phone's. Problem = Solved

It may have been stolen, but I had a similar issue with a phone that belongs to a friend (he had it on contract a short while ago, now it's his spare - I'm using it cause my phone is MIA).

Genuine phone, but installing Cyanogen somehow "changed" the IMEI. I don't quite get it myself, as I thought it was sort of hardware encoded. The IMEI number on the back of the phone was different to the IMEI the phone registered when doing that code I mentioned. Reinstalling a stock ROM from sammobile fixed it for me.
