Samsung Galaxy S4 device warranties in SA

I still see that ADH warranty as almost uncompetitive. It isn't really, I know, but how are normal companies supposed to compete with that ? They can't take a deliberate and substantial knock like Samsung can with that free warranty.

Without the accidental cover, it may make sense for some people who are considering the Active to buy the vanilla S4, even though it isn't as sturdy, you can get it replaced twice for free if it does break.

If you consider the inconvenience of not having your phone for a week or 3, I would still go for the Active.

Assuming the Active is indestructible, and paying for your own week or 3 wait isn't a concern. Just saying it might make more sense for some.

If you consider the issues that the S4 Active has had Internationally with water damage and warranty I am not so sure. The main selling feature on the S4 Active is the dust and water resistance and if you cannot trust that then what is the point. The S4 Active is no more rugged that the standard S4 and the screen is just as likely to break when being dropped.
I was waiting patiently for the S4 Active, but have since gone for the standard S4 with a decent case. Especially now with the ADH story, it is not worth the sacrifice in specs (one that is not as well known is that the S4 has 32GB storage vs 16GB on the Active). Planning on getting a waterproof case in the near future.

Sheesh, how often do you people drop your phones? I've only dropped one smartphone in my entire life. Fortunately it was before the flimsy-plastic-and-glass era though.

my Xperia go has a 24 month warranty

All phones (except Apple coz they're too PREMIUM lolz) have 24 month warranties as far as I know. They don't cover breakage from dropping or water damage though, only the Galaxy S4 has that. I'm just saying that I didn't think dropping one's phone was such a common thing.

More common than one would like, have seen too many broken screens and told how much it is to repair. Had my S2 for 2 years and thankfully never dropped it the extent that the screen broke. Unfortunately it is one of those problems / risks with current touch screen phones. Will not touch one of those flip cases as I think they also play a part in the high amount of damaged screens I have seen.

Yeah the flip cases are really hard to hold, it wouldn't suprise me if they cause more phones to be dropped. The best is still the good old fashioned pouch. Slip the phone out when you're using it (normally sitting down) and put it back when you're done. Holding the phone "naked" also doesn't give you that false sense of security and you concentrate better on holding it properly. At least that's how it works for me.

This just put me off upgrading to the mini next month when my next upgrade is due.

So its either the standard S4 or I will stick with my blackberry

Personally, I'm a fan of the Spigen Neo Hybrid case and screen protector. Better shock absorption than a flip case and much better grip as well. In this case it makes the S4 look nicer than the 'naked' device.

If you refer to the post and discussion on MyBB a week or two ago, many posters felt that it sounded suspicious. Have you done more reading. In my opinion, if they certify the phones as water and dust proof and advertise them as such, they are bound to repair them under warranty. Personally I am looking at the Experia Z rather, but I am lobbying for more tough phones in general. No reason a very expensive little computer that you carry around and use all day should be as flimsy as crystal glass.

But it doesn't take a week or three. The ADH damage could be fixed within an hour or so
