Samsung galaxy S4 - Vodacom - ordered and being delivered this Friday

I highly doubt there are only 1000. That being said, I have a suspicion there may be too few to meet initial demand. That's why I'm trying so hard to figure out the best way to secure one of the 1st ones.

My mate (also waiting for the S4) regularly supplies one of the Vodacom store stock guys with Game of Thrones episodes - Him & I are at the top of his store's list :D

Bribery & corruption are the way forward, lol

It was various sources, but I admit I may have misinterpreted them

This is the first I'm hearing of "only 1000" handsets. Source?

Edit: Found the source myself (assuming this is what you're talking about): http://samsungonlinestore.co.za/p-465-samsung-galaxy-s4-1st-1-000.aspx

If this is what you're referring to, then you're interpreting it incorrectly. This is a promotion where the first 1000 pre-orders will get a limited edition accessory pack and a Samsung hub content voucher to the value of R200

I'm gonna call some Canal Walk stores now and see what their reps say.

Update: Vodacom stated that they will definitely not get stock over the weekend and may receive it any time next week. They said that they (Vodacom 4U) are different to Vodacom Direct (the people doing the pre-orders and deliveries).

Cell C said that there is a high chance that they will get the phones on Saturday, after the launch. They have a waiting list and contracts will be on a first come, first serve basis. Their R399 package was promoted.

MTN couldn't be reached. The line was tried multiple times and wasn't answered.

Lucky my connection isn't at Vodacom 4U :wtf:

I cant speak for other stores...but the ones that we own will get their stock today and it will be going on sale on Saturday. It is very limited stock though. We ordered a k@k load....but received a little drop in the allocations round. I just hope Samsung gets bigger shipments in very soon.

So...if you are that type of guy that wants his this weekend, then I suggest you be waiting before the doors open on Saturday :)

So you saying Eastgate will have Sat then? Yes? :D

Still in two minds though. Want to go CellC for the better offering but also seeing more and more CellC network problems popping up.

Mike Smit - I'm in the same situation as you. What sort of problems are you seeing?

Just people complaining about dropped calls, data network signal but no throughput (most concerning for me), bad call quality, etc...
Comments dotted around the forums. Here and Carbonite.

The main issue for me is data. Don't care much for anything related to calls.

Where I stay I get full strength H+ on both Vodacom and CellC though so perhaps a no issue for me. Got a CellC prepaid but not sure if active still. Will try test it this afternoon.

@Ockie: is it possible to pay in say R4k and have a reduced monthly contract amount? Knowing you will have stock is swaying me stick Vodacom out. Then again I could get to Eastgate and find no stock in which case my port to CellC may still happen as I may have to wait either way (not a threat! - just saying).

EDIT: Classic example of what keeps messing with my head.

200 mins, 200sms and 200mb

Hi Mike

I'd like to assure you tht the problems are isolated, so it would be in your best interest to get a prepaid sim and test. Why would you want to pay so much when Cell C works just fine?

I've been with VC since the beginning... Made the switch to Cell C and I have had one or two small problems. Other than that, Im 100% happy. Im in the CBD Cape Town, and live around the corner in Sea Point. Will never go back.

Test and see, maybe YOU will have issues? But one cant say until they have tested the waters.

You are right dude.
I do recall a while back - when my CellC SIM was loaded with data - I had an ADSL failure. I play COD everynight on XBox so ADSL being down was a no no. I put my CellC SIM into a spare cellphone, hooked up the wifi on my XBox and tethered the two. Played about 3 hours a night - until ADSL was back - and gaming was perfectly acceptable. No drops, huge lag, nada. My ping not as good as ADSL - obviously - but perfectly acceptable considering I was playing via H+ and a cellphone.

A concern I did have this morning... I don't use my Garmin or any dedicated satnav anymore. I use my cell and Google Maps whenever I need satnav. I could end up in an area with cr@p CellC and no satnav.
Hmmm... That said - that is what Vodacom Prepaid is for. Okay - scrap that.

Sorry Vodacom - think I will be making the move. At least CellC called me when I pre-ordered. Not heard a word from Vodacom and no guarantee stock will be at any store (not driving or calling around hunting). Mind still not 100% made up yet though. Always struggle with this kind of thing.

...

Wont help necessarily, prepaid used to work fine, I got a cell c contract two years back and that worked fine at first as well.

Only towards the end of last year I started having problems with Cell C data connection at home, It has progressively gotten worse to the point that I can not longer use data from about 17:30 at all while at home.

Luckily I have wifi connection at home. The problem seems to be congestion on the network in my area, in the mornings it works.

I logged a call with Cell C at the beginning of the year. The latest feedback was that they are investigating and that mine wasn't the only location effected.

Even though I am having data connection problems I am still considering staying with them, as I do have access to internet at work and home via Wifi.
