I'm using the original Samsung Jellybean ROM - and it's fantastic.

Never felt the need to load a custom ROM.

You might want to get yourself a Nexus if you want plain vanilla Android.

Vanilla Android isn't as great as many say. The CM team do a fair bit of augmentation.

If you really like Samsung's way of doing things, use the main Omega ROM. It's the final word in TouchWiz ROM's. If you want something closer to vanilla but still very capable, use Omega AOKP. That's what I'm currently using. It's by far the best ROM I've ever used. No bloatware at all, and I have just over 300MB of RAM free with Nova Launcher Prime, email, Facebook, WhatsApp, Cerberus, Swiftkey, Box etc. running permanently. It's mind boggling how smooth the ROM is. You can be playing the most hardware intensive game available and the desktop appears instantly upon pressing the home key with no visual artefacts.

In no point of that sentence did I say anything about me wanting stock android or a pure experience.

But kernels go as far as just custom roms for custom roms come in the flavour of pure android and touchwiz and without kernel sources improving that is difficult, and the ability of devs to improve a kernel beyond Samsungs are amazing like siyah kernel and more to mention one, it's a person's choice in the end.

I've owned a GS1, used a GS2 for a few weeks and played with a GS3 and I can honestly say stock (4.2.2 on GNexus) is MUCH better than Touchwiz! Plus I get the latest Android version when they are released :p

Considering that I'm using Omega's AOKP, I of course agree that vanilla is better than TouchWiz. But there's a lot it could learn from Samsung and their art of customisation. I recommended that particular Omega because it's a more refined version of vanilla Android - basically cherry picked stuff from a selection of ROM's. And you can be sure it will always be up to date.

if you wouldnt mind explaining to me what exactly is the difference between main Omega ROM and the Omega AOKP

It looks like its just the skin? Im running the main Omega ROM and I must say that Im not TOO impressed with the lag I SOMETIMES get when I press the HOME button... :(

Omega ROM is based on the Samsung official 4.1.2 ROM.
Omega AOKP is based on CM10.1, which is Android 4.2.2.

So quite a substantial difference, which will boil down to features and UI performance. The AOKP should perform better than the Samsung skinned version.

if u are a spec whore then that is a WIN, otherwise.... there is only a certain speed one can switch between windows and a homescreen :p

Power consumption will be great because it's super efficient. Speed may not matter so much now but in a year or 2 it definitely will. The PowerVR GPU (similar to the iPad4 gpu) is also better than the Adreneo 320 in the Snapdragon so it will handle future software and games better.

I remember when I got the S2 I was like dual core 1.2ghz:eek: nothing will slow this beast down.

Now almost 2 years later it doesn't feel as invincible. I must say it has kept up really well so far.

Yeah, software drives hardware. Superior software on slightly lesser hardware is better in my books than the other way around.

Since Qualcomm is more accommodating with source, plus the fact that 70% of S4s will use the Snapdragon, not hard to guess which variant is most likely to the have the greatest variety, quality & freshness of software over its lifespan.

But will that matter when all the features which separate the S4 from the rest (Watch On, Air View, Smart Stay, all the sensors etc) will go away? Samsung will be about 3-4 months behind with 5.0 which is not very long.

Well depends if you find any of them of value. While some are novel, in practice I dont find any of them really useful. SmartStay is probably the closest but even it is not accurate enough for me to use without some frustration (rather just have longer timeout).

Yes but even then Samsung's version will probably not look like Google's. Personally I find their TouchWiz et al look & feel cartoonish & unprofessional compared to that of Google's Holo design style.

I certainly wouldn't want to be stuck with a phone that provides little choice to change. Have one of those already, an iPhone 5, but then I do like the design style of iOS.

I am a HUGE fan of Super AMOLED's over saturated colours, just love the eye-popping colours.

So no LCD for me. Thanks.

*You can test LCD on your Galaxy S2, just go to Display Settings > Screenmode and switch from Dynamic to Standard.

Then you have LCD. ;)

To each his own. But I am curious to see if the Adobe sRGB screen mode will be ported to other Samsung devices.

And that Standard screen mode doesn't cure the saturation problem, just dulls everything... Samsung have been really poor at calibrating their displays for a while now.

Anyway, I just prefer LCD, such as the below:
