I hope the MTN contracts aren't outrageously expensive. Currently on 21 months of my contract so i'm eligible for upgrade. I wish we could port before 24 months, MTN are full of **** and i don't feel like losing my number :(

The way I understood it based on previous posts I read (can't find them now), is you can port and your current provider will assign another number to your current contract. You just carry on paying off your current contract and take your existing number with you to the new provider.

I hope it does work this way. I have one month left on Vodacom and then my contract converts to prepaid and then I cancel it. I am planning on taking my number to CellC and hoping they assign a temp number for the last month.

That said... I am also thinking about just getting an S3 again and waiting for the S4 to drop in price in a few months and get one cash. I am reluctant to enter into a contract right now.

Ive tried this before on CellC, and they assured me it was impossible.

All I can say is damn. I will try dig out the posts where the peeps were talking about this. Was earlier this week sometime.
Going to be bummed if I can't. Had my number since just after Vodacom launched. Kind of attached to it.

You can do it, give written notice that you wish to terminate your contract early, and then pay penalties for the remaining months (ie pay your last 3 months subscriptions, but you get nothing in return).

I also am attached to my number, also wanting to port, also got 3 months left, so I'll probably just stick it out. I'm on Cell C, but not happy with their service, wanna go to 8ta, but there is a small chance I'll stick with Cell C, especially since I'm due for upgrade on 5th May.

If you have a recently released smartphone and you love it, why are you even considering the S4?

The camera is decent enough, it gets all the same apps, the screen is pretty large and if the battery can get you through a whole day, then I don't think it's necessary? I would only do it if I had an abundance of cash, or if there are some specific s4 features that you really need?

I suppose you right, just nice to always have the latest phone.

It's a hard decision. I know how you feel.

In anticipation of the S4 I sold my Note 2 off and got my wife an S3 with the cash (she is only due for an upgrade in a year).
I have been using my S2 for the last week to fill the gap.

Yesterday I decided to get wise and instead of paying a premium for the S4 I would hunt for an S3 again for myself (had one before the Note 2). They are going at bargain prices now and managed to pick up a Pebble Blue 32GB for R3,500 this morning.
The idea is now to use my S3 for the next 6 months or so and wait for the S4 to start dropping in price - or find a bargain on someone's unwanted upgrade. I did this with my first S3. 3 weeks after they were launched I picked up a brand new unwanted upgrade for R5k. Nice saving.

I don't know if I will manage to hold out. I have left my pre-order with CellC and will see how it pans out. My wife is convinced I will still take the S4 when they call, but ye. I am trying to be wise and stick to the S3 and wait the price hike out.
If I do take the S4, at least I can sell the S3 for what I paid for it so no loss.

Sigh... Decisions. I love getting new phones. Like a freaking addiction. And tablets. And media players. OMF. I think I have a problem ):
