Give GearCM a try. It doesn't have major bugs, besides Bluetooth calling (like in a car) not working.

I'm currently running a recent Cyanogenmod nightly, but I'll soon switch to the 20141122 GearCM build as it has many bugs fixed that remains in the official Cyanogenmod builds.

Which of the:
Google Apps (add-on)
do I need?

What app did you use to root your phone?
Do I need to back up contacts and crap?

You will wipe the phone when installing a custom ROM... Contacts may be synced with Google, depends on how you set it up

Google Apps depends on the version of Android (4.4 with kitkat etc...)

As for rooting, don't know what to use... Haven't found a use in rooting since I bricked my Note 2 and finally got it working again after a few days

Discovered the S4's infrared ability last night. Yeah I know late to the party, but in case someone else didn't know you can totally use the phone as an IR remote :)

They also have the Galaxy S4 ZOOM - R2999 only a few branches still have stock. I was considering to buy one but not sure with so many models available

S4 mini and zoom are more or less the same minus the size and camera. If you don't mind the size and want the better camera, get the zoom

Anyone know of a place that can replace my screen? I got quoted R2800 and that is almost like the price I paid for the phone (secondhand-America)

Ya sorry ADH is an African thing :whistling:

Best option bud is check out china mall one of the IP shops will probably be your best bet. Or check out Ebay for a DIY fix

Agreed, think I saw screens for sale at around 125 from zaastra.com

I thought I'd give it a try too, but mine is still lying at the mail hub in Joburg. It came out of Customs on 21 August.

So with the Post Office strike petering out, I finally received my black back cover. What a pleasure - it's everything you guys said. I'm now using my S4 without a case for the first time. :)

Well my friend found a guy who can fix my screen for like a R1000. Better than the R2800 quote

My battery is driving me nuts so I've decided I need to get a new one. The originals are something like +-R500, which is quite a lot...
Has anyone used a generic like this: http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/168264844/Samsung_Galaxy_S4_i9500_Replacement_Battery.html

I see there's also this available: http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/166978376/Samsung_S4_batteries_new.html
It seems those don't have NFC though, will this be a problem if I don't use NFC much?

Then there's this one which has NFC (according to the image): http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/167897301/SAMSUNG_S4_REPLACEMENT_BATTERY_WITH_FREE_DELIVERY.html

I took it to Samsung behind Century City but they said it's out of warranty and also that I have a custom ROM on it so the warranty would not be valid anyway... To have a tech look at it would cost something like R250 I think, so I'd rather just buy a new battery... any advice?

Buy from Ebay. They take a while to arrive (maybe 3 weeks), but you can get an original new battery for less than R100. I've bought two this way. Or you can try bidding on one (I've bought from this seller before).
