Buy from Ebay. They take a while to arrive (maybe 3 weeks), but you can get an original new battery for less than R100. I've bought two this way. Or you can try bidding on one (I've bought from this seller before).

Dunno if I can wait that long :(
My phone doesn't last half a day so I have to take a charger with me to work every day and it's a huge hassle. I can literally watch the battery percentage drop around 5% while I'm using it about every 10 mins.

That sounds quite bad - in that case I'd purchase one locally as soon as possible. I'd try to get an original battery though, especially if you're planning on using the phone for some time to come.

Anyone else with recommendations on my battery question?

My battery is driving me nuts so I've decided I need to get a new one. The originals are something like +-R500, which is quite a lot...
Has anyone used a generic like this: http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/168264844/Samsung_Galaxy_S4_i9500_Replacement_Battery.html

I see there's also this available: http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/166978376/Samsung_S4_batteries_new.html
It seems those don't have NFC though, will this be a problem if I don't use NFC much?

Then there's this one which has NFC (according to the image): http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/167897301/SAMSUNG_S4_REPLACEMENT_BATTERY_WITH_FREE_DELIVERY.html

I took it to Samsung behind Century City but they said it's out of warranty and also that I have a custom ROM on it so the warranty would not be valid anyway... To have a tech look at it would cost something like R250 I think, so I'd rather just buy a new battery... any advice?

Don't go cheapskate on your phone's battery, buy the real thing!!

It's not like you buy a new battery every month?

Google's Project Volta is baked into Lollipop, should make a noticeable difference on your battery.

What is this Project Volta you talk of? When will I get it? How will it help?

You sure that the battery drain is not App related?

I'm pretty sure...

Okay then buy an original battery. I've had bad experiences in the past with cheap batteries. It fried 2 phones.

Help me please.

GT I9500 from vodacom...

just flashed the latest xfa for this device with Odin yet the vodacom splashes and bloatware persists.

Did I do something wrong?

There were options XFA XFE and XFV(Which is the vodacom one)

How do I proceed gentlemen?

You flashed it with a south africa vodacom rom... kinda obvious why the vodacom stuff is there :p Usually the BTU roms work fine with no vodacom bloat

XFV is listed as vodacom.

I used XFA when I did my Note 2 (RIP)
And it was the debranded software.

Should I use the XFE? Or go for firmware from another country to be safe?

XFA is the unbranded South African ROM, it is the correct one to use.

Did you do a factory reset before flashing and wiped the cache partition straight after flashing?

Reboot into service menu (holding in volume down + home + power) .

You will see option to wipe cache partition.

Ah, I think on S4 you can change the CSC code manually, Google is your friend.

when i went into stock recovery to clear the cache now at the bottom of screen it ran a string : applying multi csc : XVF CSC applied...

so although I flashed xfa with odin the phone is reverting to XFV on every initialisation.

ok lets say i flash again when i am at my pc at work tomorrow.

So I do a factory wipe from stock recovery.

flash new xfa with odin

Before first boot i have to wipe cache?

How do I stop Odin from rebooting?

And once Odin does not reboot. I switch phone off, enter stock recovery again and wipe cache and then reboot?

Is there a leaked lollipop Touchwiz ROM just yet or an expected release date for an official update?
