What's the deal with Google Services using this much battery? Do anyone else in Lollipop see the same?

Switch off location services.

It is always switched off. In the Jellybean and KitKat days, I always advocated switching off location services so as to take advantage of the battery benefits. Since upgrading to lollipop, this is no longer the case in my experience.

PS is that an extended battery or does your phone sit in a drawer permanently?

Neither. Normal battery, but lately my normal day to day usage has been on the lighter side. On the other hand, I do make a habit of hunting down any apps or services that behave badly in terms of battery usage or data usage. So my phone is pretty optimized in this sense. Last year with Jelly Bean and KitKat, I would get between 5 and 7 hours of screen on time. I've posted about this in this thread.

AOSP ROMs yes, on stock based ROMs no.

I'm currently running CM12, and battery life has halved in comparison to the stock based lollipop ROMs.

Samsung has released the kernel source for lollipop, so hopefully we see a decent AOSP based ROM with a decent camera app and battery life in comparison to what's available now.

I really hope so. This will be my last Exynos device though. Next upgrade will be Snapdragon and AOSP all the way.

Well with Samsung going Exynos means unified development for us.

No split lines and watered down ROMS catering to two different SOCs.

The best thing Samsung did for developers is unify their chipset. This is good news for the development community.

One ROM fits all, and this is felt all over XDA. :)

Quick question.
I have my S4 flashed as a Omega v26 I think.
I slapped in Kies 3 and it tells me that Lollipop is available for my phone.
Can I flash it to Lollipop now without any issues?

I want to flash a custom rom on my S4, either CM or Omega. I've got the i9500 (vodacom). Does CM or Omega give better battery live?

I have had my S4 phone for 4 days now and it is on 4.3 Jellybean and looking online it seems there is no firmware update out yet for the USA, is this correct? What would happen if I came across a download from another country and try to install it on my phone? I read that I could only download via Odin as Kies will not have the update until it's released in the USA.

I had great battery life on Omega.
Only problem I know of on CM is the camera isn't as good as the Touchflow ones.

I'm on Magma now, enjoying the Lollipop experience. Also great battery life. Great experience all over.

Well I am in SA and I am running the software for India on my phone for more than a year now and no issues.

I also receive update long before SA does. I am just not sure what other country's software will work in the US but it will be possible.

You would just need to download the software from sammobile and flash it with ODIN. From then on it would update when new software is rolled out for that country.
