I love the phone but when I got all my stuff running again it consumed 1.65GB of data.

Luckily via WiFi.

Anybody else had the same type of consumption?

I do use dropbox for docs and picasa for pics.

Mine ate 600mb. I forgot to disable the GMAIL app from downloading all attachments over wifi and I have noted that the gallery has a sample of every photo that I have saved on dropbox so it must have scanned through them all and downloaded a sample copy. Cool feature but heavy initial outlay.

Just want to double check, when I get the phone can I use it straight away or should it be charged for x amount of hours first?

Also what's normally the best thing to do first when getting the phone, use it a bit or root it straight away?

Ah thanks for pointing that out but reason for me asking was that mercurial said "AFAIK", not doubting their advice, just wanted to confirm by getting somebody else's opinion ;)

Mercurial is right. Just go for it ;)
Including root :D

so rooting prevents OTA updates, which could be an issue for us? I mean, how often do you think we gonna get updates considering this is a new phone?

dont shoot the messenger.

I've got root, Thanks for the great work!! You're GOD....

I've lost my OTA updates, Software update says " The system is modified" Is there a way to fool Samsung Servers and restart getting OTA updates. Since this is a new launch there would be lots of very frequent OTA updates and I do not want to miss them either. Moreover, my Wireless Display has stopped working after root, is it related to the recovery or something?

Once you done this root and hit UPDATE, mine also gives the same "The system is modified" message. Im not TOO concerned though, because by the time we start getting updates, Indie will have Omega out already... :D

It won't prevent update. That only happens if you flash a custom non SA ROM.
SA takes forever to release the updates so most of us just go get them ourselves from www.sammobile.com.

I have a gripe with the phone:
I want to remove the message preview widget on the lockscreen. If i turn ON the message preview (under Messages->Settings->Preview message) i get the message widget showing the sender and the message text, if i turn the preview off i still get the message widget but this time it just shows the sender as "Messaging" and the message text as "New message".
I have attached 2 screenshots showing both screens.
I have tried with the "Multiple widgets" option turned on and off with the same result.

However if i completely turn message notifications off (Messages->Settings->Notifications), it goes away, but then i dont get any notifications of messages.

Is there any way to just turn off that lockscreen widget but still have the normal notifications like the S2 and S3?

Played with one today in store and coming from the S3 its really not a massive difference. Sure screen is slightly bigger, the build quality is pretty much the same, the biggest thing that I did notice was it was a lot faster. Not that the S3 is slow.

Nice phone, just doesn't feel like a worthy upgrade from the S3, considering that I will wait another 2 years to upgrade.
