Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini - SA prices revealed

I advise people to start resisting contracts and try save then buy cash. One does not necessarily need to upgrade their phone every year

i do agree, a new phone every 2 years is a nice thought, but when you start calculating the mount of money spent, its pretty ridiculous!.

apart from that, what i dont get is why come out with Mini versions of flag ship phones??? its like settling for second best i dont see the point, and from what i have seen, its only samsung that seems to do this, is do stand to be corrected.

Htc has mini , as well as sony . Its form factor, not everyone wants a big phone .

Exactly this! ... I am doing the same, cutting my bill by over 50% per month...

Making a cash purchase isn't always the cheapest option. It depends on how much you spend on airtime per-month as to whether contract or prepaid will be the preferable option.

even if just looking at the cost of the device,i think cash will always be the cheaper option, vs paying for something over 24months.

having said that, not everyone is in the position to do that, and it is so easy to go out and get a contract.

You need to look at the cost of the device plus the amount you would spend on airtime over a two year period in order to determine if the cash option is cheaper.

R5950/24 months = 247.91
100 minutes@ 79c/min = R79
100 MB@ 15c/meg = R15
100 sms@ 50c = R50
Total: R391.91

Saving of R22.91/pm
Over 24 Months = 549.84

Using this as a guideline, I would rather go on contract. It will take me forever to save R6000 to buy a phone. I would probably paint my house with that month before spending it on a phone :)

Except that the Sony xperia Z1 compact is a real proper flagship, not a down specced mini like Samsungs and HTC's offerings.

Also that pricing is a joke!

Yep pretty stupid to go for this if you can get a proper flagship compact phone with better specs and looks in the form of the Zi compact for around the same price.

Those prices on MTN are ridiculous!

100 sms's? Who the hell still sends 50 sms's?

I would as not everyone has whatsapp, internet or data reception and what happens if you stuck on a mountain and the only thing you can do is sms...

Also whatsapp messages are more delayed than sms', I can receive sms' straight away but whatsapp takes a while to register even when phone screen is off.

This is something that is a bit better than my S2 (so if that dies, I get this). I do not want a S5, too big. I'd rather no have a phone sticking up out of my shirt pocket, S2 fits perfectly .

The cash price would be better than these crazy expensive options.

My Samsung S2 cost me R299 pm from MTN with Anytime 200 (I think). So my S2 plus R200 of MTN airtime (@ R2.30 per minute) cost me R7200 altogether over the 24 months. What did a new S2 cost then? R7000 and up. I scored, especially if you take inflation into account.

It isn't that big once you use it, use a tablet then the phone and you will think it is tiny.

I have my 7 inch tablet if I want a bigger screen. I'd rather no have a phone sticking up out of my shirt pocket, S2 fits perfectly .
