I understand what it achieves but fail to understand why one would willingly root your device?

To gain access to features otherwise impossible... like mercurial wants to use titanium backup to backup complete apps, so he doesn't need to redownload. For stands?

Samsung when you backup the phone to a pc all the .apk files get backed up as well.
Pretty sure that is what the cable was for when i did the upgrade...

When it was done all my apps were back.

Most people don't feel the need to root. How about we just leave it at that.

Also, not just the apps, it's the data and all related settings. Not only that, I can then do other cool things, like turning off heads up notifications etc. Root gives you so much more.

You want to back up your apk's just look at the playstore. If you want to transfer or share an apk use ML manager.
If you want to do everything in bulk, feel free to root and use Titanium backup. It's personal preference.
I used to have so much fun rooting and flashing roms. At the moment I'm enjoying my S7 just as it is...for now.

Not that much, but still impressive. I'm too frightened to use it much until I get a protective case. I have already dropped it once - luckily onto a wooden floor and not concrete..

Like I said, I understand what it achieves, doesnt rooting void your warranty?
