Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini unveiled

Samsung Electronics on Friday unveiled a compact version of its flagship Galaxy S III smartphone, with a touch screen sized to match that of arch-rival Apple’s new iPhone 5.

This phone is being hailed by practically every tech publication as a dud... basically Samsung is trying to lure uneducated people into buying this low spec phone by using the Galaxy SIII moniker.

Move along people, nothing worth seeing here.......

I was really hoping for something better not some mid range cell. Rather just get yourself an S2.

with a touch screen sized to match that of arch-rival Apple’s new iPhone 5.

Matched in size and nothing else....

LOL Samsung, so you don't truly believe in enormity:)
“It can be an optimal choice for consumers who are looking for more practical smartphones,” Samsung said in statement.

VS S2

Wonder what the benchmarks will look like against the S2.

Exactly what I'm looking for. Although 4 inches is pushing it a bit. 3.5 would be far more pocketable, but I gotta replace my old X10 Mini with something.

While Samsung is touting the Mini as a lesser mid-range smartphone, first thing that came to my mind is; if the Samsung engineers could have packed the the full (or enhanced) S3 into a 4" package ... they would have.

The S3 has become a craze and I forsee the lower income jumping for the S3 mini over phones like the BB if it's priced similarly on contract.

and the S III’s dual-core 1.5GHz processor has been downgraded to 1GHz.

I must have a different S III since mine has a quad core at 1.4Ghz.

I must say that would have been impressive... they would probably have to drop NFC and removable storage, and perhaps adopt a nano sim but it would blow the competition out the water. :p

At first I was disappointed with the specifications of this phone, but then it dawned on me that not everybody can afford the S3 flagship or need the full S3 specifications. This phone will be a winner if the price is right.

So it's an S2 in terms of specs but with an S3 look. They shouldn't call it an S3.

Same thing as Ferrari making a mini Ferrari that looks like a Ferrari but on the inside it is a Toyota Yaris. People don't like being deceived so calling it an S3 will cause some bad publicity for them over time.

And you just know the salesman at MTN, Vodacom and the like are going to punt it hard as the same as an S3 just smaller.
