Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 gets ICS in South Africa

The 10.1-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab can now be updated to Android Ice Cream Sandwich in South Africa

Why no Jellybean yet?
I wonder how long it will lag?

ICS came out in October 2011. Thats just over a year ago
JB came out in July 2012. So the Galaxy Tab was 2 releases behind until now. Now only 1.

Its getting better on some of the higher end devices but the update cycle is still not good.

Mine updated about a month ago. I did buy it in Thailand thou so not sure who controls the updates.

Still would like to know why they aren't releasing JB for the P7500 Tablet....

The Update and install took about half an hour or so. I did it last night. 3G Mobile data usage finally seems to work, but will have to monitor it over the next few days just to confirm.

Updated mine over the weekend -- downloaded Saturday night direct over-the-air (no thanks to somewhat useless Kies...), and installed yesterday morning. My first experience with ICS, pretty slick, especially the artwork looks much more polished than the stock Honeycomb.

Thanks Samsung! Next up, where's my JellyBeans?

WHAT an improvement - i can honestly say I have not had one browser crash since the update. Everything's working smoothly - very happy with the ICS update. As for Jellybean - doubt the P7500 will get it. Besides, I will get a new tab anyway mid next year!

Any data / app loss post upgrade or does it backup and restore during the ICS upgrade?

I've been on official ICS (Italian release) for many months already and it is absolutely worth the upgrade. Samsung actually did a great job with TouchWiz for a change. Turned an ugly buggy piece of junk into an excellent tablet.

I have had JB roms on mine to try it out but it didn't add anything of real value over the ICS version so go for it. A JB version will not make any difference on this tablet. ICS works great. Very stable. Very slick. Everything works. No need for more (coming from somone with JB on a Note 2).

I'm already running 4.1 on my p7300 (CM10) and the last 2 weeks or so it has really become stable. 4.2 roms are already starting to make the rounds. This update is VERY late.

VERY LATE indeed. Question is: Who's to blame? Telkos? Samsung has made ICS available to them yonks ago.

My Samsung Galaxy 10.1v has been running Ice Cream Sandwich for over a month now. I am with 8ta, about 4 weeks ago I woke up to a notification indicating that there is a new firmware. I hit yes button, downloaded the file and my tablet which I almost threw in the trash can its now running like a dream.

I do remember reading somewhere that battery life takes a bit of a knock when running ICS...

Updated last night. Looks slicker, but when viewing photo's in the gallery, even though they were imported and taken with an SLR camera, they now look grainy on the screen whereas with Honeycomb they appeared crisp!
