How does Google’s new tablet made by Asus compare to the new 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab and Amazon Kindle Fire?

the nexus 7 would be perfect for South Africa. I believe that due to the low price it will sell like hotcakes in SA, as for most people the ipad is just too expensive.

Any comparison right now is a little misleading given that Amazon is on the brink of releasing a completely revamped Fire which will reportedly address some of the shortcomings of the first-generation model. Not that it matters much to us here in SA given that the unit was never released here apart from through private channels.

Amazon will not ship it here. KF is tied into their service offerings which aren't present here; therefore no advantage to get it in this country. It's all handle and no razor blades. I'd imagine the same thinking is going on in Google towards the Nexus 7.

I've got the Fire and Nexus 7. Fire feels like an outdated piece of hardware, when compared to the nexus 7.

Nexus 7 is VERY slick. Its good, and cheap.

If a $499 iPad (3) can be sold here for R4,999, I don't see why we should have to pay more than R1,999 for a $199 Nexus 7.

I think 2500 will be a better price for the 8GB the close to 2k the better.

The 16GB should be around 2800 but maybe thats too much to ask.

Well, that price is not too far off tbh for the 16 GB. $250 + $50 shipping is already $300. Add tax to the wrong amount of $300 like our retailers will always and you get $333, which is roughly R2900. If you take it that they will have to pay the extra tax and shipping on that side(like I did) that is an extra $40, $373 say R3200. R500 profit is then added - R60 shipping.

Not too bad imo.
