From the perspective of a feature phone user who hasn't been able to up to the powerful smartphones, how much would this budget friendly Droid be of an upgrade? Emphasis on the budget restrictions, so no talk about buying more powerful Droids

I bought a Galaxy Y Duos phone recently for travel (same phone but dual sim slots).

I quite like this phone, ok it does not have the fancy screen and high res camera of the expensive phones, but very usable.

It will work with a high capacity microSD card, so will take all your music, etc.

Know someone with a Y Pro, has the full QWERTY keyboard and scroll button of the blackberry. Comparing it to the S1 I have it seemed like a very descent phone. The screen looked better than the pocket another friend has.

What do you use currently? What do you mean with a feature phone, sort of difficult to give an opinion if we do not know what you are used to and what you want to do with the phone….

So it won't choke if I load 12GB worth of music on a let's say class 6 16GB micro SD card?

My wife has had her little Y for 6 months, she loves it, won't even give it up after I was like here take a Defy, or a Razr. It's decent size for her, okay the screen is saturated, but she says you get used to it.

The phoned is aimed at the teen market as a entry level device into Android. The 3" screen is frustratingly tiny; I'd personally fork out a little more money and get a Galaxy Ace

The only reason I haven't considered the Galaxy Ace is coz it only comes with Froyo out of the box.... Pitty. My budget is R2 500

If you install the official Samsung Spain 2.3.6 ROM (download it from samfirmware.com), the Galaxy Ace becomes a fantastic phone.
