Samsung Pay officially launches in South Africa

The Samsung Pay app has officially launched in South Africa after a brief early access period.

Speaking at a launch event in Sandton, Johannesburg, Samsung Africa president Sung Yoon announced that Samsung Pay has officially rolled out and was being well received.

Still not working with FNB Cheque, so only still a launch for Absa/Standard Bank

FNB wants you to use their app instead. Doubt they will get on board with Samsung Pay.

I'm sure they will eventually. Google Pay, Samsung Pay and Apple Pay are miles better than anything they could ever hope to provide. At some point SA will have all 3 services.

Yeah fnb really need add support for this :(

I will go and change my phone just for this, but not willing to change my bank.

Capitec already confirmed they won't support it, they should just enable PayPal support that way it's irrelevant who you bank with.

Pity Note 5 not supported because I'm not going to get another Samsung phone for a long long time

And I thought FNB was a technology leader in banking? This is a bit disappointing. The most disappointment is not that FNB is not on board, but that they don't say anything. It's like they avoid the elephant in the room and hope it will go away. At least say we are thinking about it or we won't get it or we are busy. Silence is also an answer, and these days in an information accessibility heaven it speaks louder than words.

Did you ask any of the FNB channels of communication if they are planning on supporting it?
