I am wanting to switch from my Samsung S20 to my LG G8x. Samsung pay is the only app that allows me to tap my phone for payments.

Google Wallet does not register when tapping to pay and the bank app also does not allow it.

Can you install Samsung Pay on an LG?

Well, it’s called Samsung Pay for a reason…

Maybe if by some miracle you could install a Samsung rim and have Samsung recognise the LG as a Samsung then sure, but as long as your LG remains and LG, it’s not a Samsung.

nope, google wallet works with FNB, try it out and set it up properly.
I am not with FNB. I have Capitec. It is a new account. It allowed me to add a card to Google Pay, but when I tried to use it, it did kept giving errors to check my phone.

I was with Bidvest but they do not have the ability to use any wallet apps, just the physical card.

Did you enable tap to pay on your Capitec account?

Yes I have. As I said, it works fine on Samsung Pay. But not on Google Wallet.

google wallet can be picky on what it works with and what it doesn't work with, sometimes if your android OS is old it throws a hissy fit,
its a a lot of trial and error, but to answer your original question, Samsung pay CANNOT be loaded on a non Samsung phone.

best bet is google wallet of GTFO, or if your FNB, you can try your luck with tap to pay/snap to pay,
not sure if capitec has that option.

I use the same card for both. Registration was successful according to my Capitec App and Google Wallet.

I will create another virtual card for Google Wallet and see if that works.

Thought LG don't make phones anymore.
they dont, but some people had/have old ones,
I had a LG G4 that kept on overheating to the point of uselessness, I kept asking myself is this was using a Apple idiotphone is like

and then I got one, and I confirmed it for myself, with the 12 and with the 6s.

I don't think they do.

I have the G8x Dual screen, which I got like 3 years ago. After some testing last night, I found that its network capabilities are much better than my Samsung Galaxy S20FE. I am considering switching the LG as my primary phone.

I must say the graphics and responsiveness on the LG is also much better than the Samsungs.

will agree there, LG makes good displays, but Samsung developed their smartphone more.
now its a question of compatibility, unless you want to go down the road of rooting and installing a custom rom to get things to work better.

I tried that with my G4, but it was built like garbage and overheated constantly,
so do some reading on XDA and join a few telegram groups that talk about it and decide for yourself,
this is exactly how I started with Rooting, after my Samsung died and went out of warranty.

Security concerns, surely no more updates?

know people keep old LG phones going with rooting and custom roms,
but then again had mixed results with google wallet and rooting, sometimes it works and sometimes it wont.

its a bit of a gamble on your primary phone.

Me and my boyfriends Capitec cards work with Google Pay.
yes, but google pay on older hardware/software gives some issues sometimes,
bit of a trial and error especially if its a LG G8 that hasn't been updated in years,
if I was OP, id stick with the Samsung for payments, I used to do the same thing with the Iphone 6s for years before I got the watch,

and when the watch runs out of software support, might just go back to the Iphone or find a workaround, can be frustrating/fun figuring it out
as when companies stop supporting phones with updated software, you kind of screwed and left in the lurch,
but then again, forcing people to upgrade every 7 years is a good business model.

I have to admit that I prefer Samsung Pay (I have both Samsung and Google Pay setup on my phone). Google Pay I had to sometimes tape the phone twice because it would give a error. One of those "hold the phone closer" or whatever errors. Samsung Pay works on first tap every time.

Update: Samsung has confirmed to us that this issue has now been fixed through a patch, and Samsung Pay should now work as intended on non-Samsung phones.
