Ok, so I just downloaded Lollipop 5.1 from SamMOBILE (I9505XXUHOE4_I9505OLBHOE1_I9505XXUHOE4_HOME.tar.md5) Has anyone installed this yet on the S4? The instructions on their download page are as follows:

"Instructions

Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.09
Extract Odin ZIP file
Open Odin v.3.09
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes"

Has anyone tried this method as I am not sure if Odin is a "safe" app to use? Or can the file be applied by KIES as well? And more importantly, is there a rollback option? I was also wondering if all/most apps running on 4.4.2 will also work on 5.1?

I am currently running 4.4.2 with some battery life, app stability and cell coverage issues.

Odin is 100% safe - I flashed my S4 with Lollipop using Odin and that exact procedure
Just like you, I was nervous. Don't be - worked a treat!

Odin is the safe way to flash. You shouldn't encounter any difficulties or problems unless you really do something incredibly stupid - which you wont. :)

Umm, 1 thing to keep in mind. Use a PC that is on a UPS or a laptop.

It's all fun and games until load shedding bricks your phone...

If Odin fails, you can just reflash. It only soft-bricks your phone, but as you say, it's good practice to always ensure you're on a stable source of power.

It's not overheating anymore. I used the Singapore one. It doesn't mention Any network and had about 5 bloatware apps which I uninstalled. Fone is working well
Sorry, I did it for my i9505 not I9500

My I9500 is running very well, gave it a good amount of heavy use earlier this week and was very impressed with the speed and smoothness.

Have you previously flashed or is your phone still out the box standard firmware wise? ie: Is this an SA OTA?

Stock standard phone and firmware, not flashed, this is an official release as far as I can tell. It was a android system notification.
